How would this work alongside royal mail's plans to scan almost everything we deliver?
I've got my bundle of mail in one hand, my parcel in the other, my PDA gripped between my teeth and I'm headbutting the doorbell.
What do I use to scoop the d2d out of the bag and merge it?
Clean answers only.

I still don't see how one wave is supposed to work unless RM get these new flat machines. In our office we get more manual mail to sort than what our CSS guys shove through. Plus the amount of red sleeves we get with packets and tracked, I just don't see one wave working without the keeping of RM2000 frames.
We are one of those offices who have a large number of deliveries that have 4+ d2d week in week out, I don't fancy trying to do a mixed rural going back to carrying bags again. And as the cab of the van is supposed to be kept virtually empty, I don't want loose stuff floating around.

Don't like some of the comments regarding our brothers and sisters in Walsall. Too much second guessing and rumours, so here is some real info.
1. Royal Mail are adamant this trial will be the way of the future for the whole business.
2. The CWU has played a blinder keeping this trial in a office for nearly 1 and a half years, but it is getting close to breaking out.
3. D2Ds are being bundled in Swindon, Walsall as one of the poorest areas in the country never had many d2ds and so the unit never pre bundled,
4, trays of walk sorted mech goes straight to vans, takes 10/15 mins to sort bit of manual, then to van.
LWT is then used with bigger panniers and Mail is delivered using back to back method.
5. IEs confirm savings on indoor, outdoor method slightly longer, but not equal.
Happy to find out some real answers to questions anyon e has.

I guess the first question would be - how big are your duties?labbloke wrote:Don't like some of the comments regarding our brothers and sisters in Walsall. Too much second guessing and rumours, so here is some real info.

That's because RM and the union like to pretend that they don't exist. Any plans they ever draw up for deliveries, fails to take them into account.Newbie001 wrote:Also. No one's really explained what happens with packets.
I've taken now to just leaving RM and the union to it. Let them dream up as many mad ideas between them, during their cosy love-ins together, as they like. I'll be arriving on time, having a nice casual day without worrying, enjoy my break, journey back to the office, just in time to throw whatever I have remaining at whichever manager is there (if by a miracle there even is a manager there), before leaving on time.
It's clear that the union officials agreeing to these madcap schemes, haven't ever set foot out on delivery, or if they did it was maybe a cushy London duty a decade ago, yet they think they know what it takes to be a modern day postman. It's time for the union to modernise - inject some leaders who actually know what the f**k they are on about when it comes to today's working day, and think outside London for once, because you are losing a LOT of support in other areas of the country.

How do staff split the sequenced mail into loops?
Is this done in the back of a van?
How is health and safety maintained?
Are the staff starting on time?
Are they taking their full meal relief?
How is the d2d carried between addresses and is it being merged on the doorstep or as I suspect...while moving between delivery points?
Our sequenced trays sometimes come with the wrong labels on them, who takes responsibility?
Our sequenced trays contain missorts and mail not proper to that duty, what happens to QofS, is that being fudged?
Is there any monitoring in place to ensure these guys are doing the job properly?
Are they working their hours or are they being bribed with an early finish?
This sounds like an easy trial to kill stone dead if the people involved were doing the job properly and the local union was on top of the situation so if they're playing such a blinder why does royal mail want to roll it out further?

On a Monday, our mail is walk-sorted by machine, in our main delivery office (we are a smaller unit with our own machines, but for some reason on a Monday it is outsourced) and mail arrives in an absolutely hopeless state. Roads sequenced backwards, addresses out of place - how on earth would you cope with delivering mail that arrived to you like that? You would be backwards and forwards like an idiot.

Anyone bothered to ask the manager to ask the question "Has <other office name> got up to date sort plans for the walks?"LouBarlow wrote:On a Monday, our mail is walk-sorted by machine, in our main delivery office (we are a smaller unit with our own machines, but for some reason on a Monday it is outsourced) and mail arrives in an absolutely hopeless state. It seems to be different every week, so I'd guess it's more operator error than anything.SpacePhoenix wrote:Anyone bothered to ask the manager to ask the question "Has <other office name> got up to date sort plans for the walks?"LouBarlow wrote:On a Monday, our mail is walk-sorted by machine, in our main delivery office (we are a smaller unit with our own machines, but for some reason on a Monday it is outsourced) and mail arrives in an absolutely hopeless state. The roads sequenced backwards might be down to a fault with the sort plan

I am disappointed that by giving you an update some want to attack the Wasall workers that is simply wrong.
1 The D2D work for the 12 walks in the trail come in collated and within a wallet. So they are not being asked to merge a number of D2D items.
2. The sequenced Mail is in a manuel tray ! The manuel gets put into the frame and than put into a seperate box.
3. Royal Mail have tried to get on the light weight trolley each loop of sequence in one part of the trolley and the non sequenced in the other . This proved unsuccessful as it did on the HCT. Royal Mail want the loops on CDVs to be done this way as well.
4, By not using the frame for all the work , Ie sequenced , d2d and manuel than the frame is not used that much. So now they are thinking that if they had different start times for groups of walks than they could use the same frames and thereby removing at least 50% of frames.
5. In terms of packets due to the trail being limited by the CWU to 12 walks parcels are sorted in a bull ring and Royal Mail want to give those walks a mini York each so no work is done for parcels are needed on the frame.
No other union would have delayed the employee so long and stopped them from trailing or rolling out to other offices their idea. Let's be clear some offices would not put up a fight if they did !
The Wasall should be Aplauded not given stick. They never asked to be in a trail and they have proven that a lot of Royal Mail's plans won't work so you in your offices don't have to trail it !
It is so easy to critcise a group of workers in another area but they are sticking together and at the forefront of this Royal Mail attack and deserve our support not cheap insults

Can't see that working, who's going to pay to send d2d if it's going to be in a wallet with other company's d2d and gets binned without ever been looked at

??? Sequenced mail doesn't go in manual trays, the only manual DO's get is stuff thats been rejected by the machine and stuff that's missed the 2nd wave

Can't see that working as the manual letters and the flats will still need sorting to walks in DOs

That won't work, MC's don't have the room to do breakdowns by groups of walks
