And rep,anyways...
Get a seniority list of the reserves.
Go down the list so they reserves get the pick of what duties are available for the next week.
They should then in the interest of fairness...
Have the day off of the duty they are covering,if it's 'Bobs' duty and it's a Sat off then they have that.If 'Bob' was on it he would have that day off wouldn't he!
Get some kind of aggregate list, that way you can keep an eye on who's had Sat's off,if some, even if they are low on seniority in the list have not had a Sat off for a while then they get priority.
It really is not hard to do,it's just lazyness on the managers and reps part.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Indeed it is, i have never ( been here a couple of months ) seen an organisation run as slap dash as this one. We are in 2015 people i should be able to ask anyone of you what you will be working in four months time to arrange a day out with family or night away. Whether you full or part time you should know your projected duties. For someone to say that you should have part time people fighting over the next weeks duties shows how bad the organisation is ( or management is) its madness.

Who is on IPS and Packet sorting whilst Posties A and B are throwing off the 4 walks then ?Postie A and Postie B are both f/t on a shared walk.
Postie A prep their 2 duties while Postie B preps the duties for Posties C and D who are both p/t.
Postie And B are not allowed to leave before the indoor work of posties C and D is complete.
We're all here because we're not all there

In our DO, recent sign up.... senior had a chance to choose any other for share job, so senior signed a very good round and his chosen mate had only 4 months seniority . ( it was his wife ).

zx, thanks for your reply. But, with respect this office in question Basingstoke have more part time walks (36) than the whole of your staff members; of just 30.
They have about 50 part timers so the logistics of this office will be like chalk and wet cheese compared to yours.
And TrueB said his office has more than one floor - again the logistics cannot be compared to a leafy rural-ish office of 30 staff with probably a lot of long-term staff and full timers.
And judging from some of your office, you also have a strong (unionised office - helps with lots of FTs...) and you appear to indicate that your manager is also strong enough to make full timers actually fully prep for the part timers.
Good for you though.

Re: Seniority under attack at the Basingstoke Delivery Offic
Offices are different - just saying...
In ours, the HCT and drivers actually start 30 minutes earlier and finish earlier than the rest of FT. So they start off on IPS and leave, then back later...
Our IPS and Driver duties need a lot of prep time cos of all the offices and huge amount of mail including a lot of folks now having parcels addressed/sent to their office. The smaller parcels* especially the Signed For can be a pain for HCT folks (and others too).
*Oversized parcel are delivered by a Driver.

Re: Seniority under attack at the Basingstoke Delivery Offic
So can a area rep or divisional rep answer the question - If this hasn't been agreed by the rep and the staff at the basing stoke office, is this executive action? If it is hasn't been agreed, it's illegal, correct?
If it is executive action what are the area reps and divisional reps doing about it?

It is executive action, it's not illegal no law has actually been broken, has the office went through the full disagreement process followed by a rule 13 ballot? If they have not went through or willing to go through these steps then area and division rep don't have anything to do with it (apart from their roles in the disagreement peocess) really unless the office rep isn't doing his job by lodging the disagreements

Re: Seniority under attack at the Basingstoke Delivery Offic
With respect size of the office is not the issue it's the willingness of the managers and reps to put the work in, even of office was on different floors etc and one floor only pt, ft staff would work there until fully sorted then move to the next floor in reality you are not going to have one floor all pt it's just a matter of using the resources smartly which is the issuechrisj wrote:zx, thanks for your reply. Yes we have a good office, staff don't take any rubbish from managers and equally managers don't take it from the staff everyone knows their role and what is expected of the that's why it works

The union are naturally fighting the proposed changes to the seniority system, and the situation has now developed to a stage three disagreement.

Re: Seniority under attack at the Basingstoke Delivery Offic
I told our rep about this post so he read it,,,,,he says simply that they cannot do it. seniority is seniority and its nationally agreed. to do away with it or ignore it is executive action and could prompt walkouts or other I/A. you go back to status quo if not settled.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Shouldn't mediation have reared its head at some point
