the easiest solution will have been to pay someone to do the lapse for you instead of saying - you can dock my wages...

To be honest, you probably could have done the lapsed if you are taken it out and still make a load of time... Maximum lapse probably about 20 minutes and if you sneak off without the packets and signed fors or something, you could have made your wedding and the rest.

Yeah great advice if he had done what you said he would not be on an abandonment of duty charge it would be wilful delay

not that long ago there wernt any lapsing and if you had a must do appointment while you on shift then things could be sorted with the dom. but now the dims cant have you doing that. did you speak to your dim earlier in the week as i presume you may have known you be going earlier then friday night ? will you get the sack ? possible but more likly you get a 2 year serious if you got a clean record. best of luck tomorrow mate and whatever you get other then the sack take it on the chin

I know the poster wants people to give her or her a sort of idea of what might happen to him or the abandonment of duty charge - we really do not know unless someone here has been charged with the same???

And we all seemed wiser after the event... blah blah blah... Although it does not help the poster but this a forum for people to learn as well; at least learn from other people's mistakes.

I know I intimated wilful delay but one has to be clever about it. Oops, I forgot to take the packets or a mysterious missorts here or there will present a manager with a level of doubt - as in unintentional delay of mail not an outright wilful delay... I accept that is not clever; it is taking a risk but it is far better than an 'abandonment of duty' IMO.

With these sort of things, it depends on the office, the manager and the postie involved. If the manager has it in for you then he has found a way to get you. The manager could have insisted you take the mail out and threatened you there and then instead of saying 'its not my problem'. And when you said 'you can dock my pay', how did that come across?

In future if you need to finish early agree it up front don't just assume you can do your round and go home, job and knock is long gone.
