Did you stop to wonder why the pay agreement is for just 3 years? There's more chance of finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow than our t+c's actually lasting 5 years. The "reviews" begin as soon as the yes vote is in the bag. The resulting actions will erode those very terms via short-term incentives agreed with the union. Royal Mail said from the start they can't agree to guarantee to protect jobs for more than 3 years; they meant it.

How hard is it to make one part of the business "financially unsustainable" on paper?

Royal Mail directors announce that $PART of Royal Mail is going under financially, RMG.L share price tanks, hen it's revealed that the management knowingly lied about the problems. You don't think those "evil hedge funds"(TM) are going to not sue the board for failing in their fiduciary duty to the shareholders, causing those shareholders actual financial loss? Furthermore, do you think this might affect the chances of those directors getting reelected to the board and/or (re)elected to the boards of other companies?

It looks like the mail centre closure programme will also accelerate under this deal, whether you are in delivery or not this will have a profound affect on you and the way you do the job, having your parent mail centre many many miles away from your delivery offices will mean the work arriving later and later in your office until such time as you will be working days or worst case scenario late turn deliveries, look at Hull, its now a 70 mile journey for your inward work to come from Sheffield, so assuming a 6 o'clock tie up at the mail centre what time will the last of your work arrive? It will be 8 o'clock starts, sorting till around 11 then out on delivery, 4hr delivery and finish around 4, you can see it happening, there are a lot of posts on here that reflect the separation of deliveries from processing (RM did it for a reason folks!) Just remember we're all in this together, whether out on delivery or sorting letters in a factory unit somewhere, this job only worked because of the way we were organised, new ways of working, hub distribution etc has destroyed that organisation and made the job even harder imho
