Since you use a PDA, they should have been able to tell that you actually tried to deliver the Special rather than trying to steal the item... They probably knew that and that was why you were not suspended straight-away... That is no reason to lose/mislay a special but we all make mistakes.

The post you did not get was someone being sarcastic. But what some of these folks that have worked a long time do not realise is that in 3 weeks, everything is still a blur to a new starter. And the issues of Union, Union rep, training, colleagues (that is a laugh) - mots of them don't probably know your name... You probably do not have a workplace coach - we dont' have one...

The reality, you do not all of a sudden called other posties your colleagues after 3 weeks - you are a newbie trying to stay afloat. Unless you are an extrovert and you have taken to the job like a duck to water.

Lastly, the sarcastic comment was uncalled for because you are currently suspended so who do you really talk to? You are probably not in the Union yet and you are out of the loop and clueless as to what is going on and what is going to happen.

What most people (who've been in the job a fair few years) forget, is nowadays new starts don't get any / very little training. I was given half a day with an agency worker, then basically told to get on with it! Never meant any of our work place coaches, apparently we have 4, both of our union reps never bothered introducing themselves, only found out after a couple of months who they were. Luckily there a a couple of good guys on my shift that are always happy to help out with any queries.

Try not to worry about it too much, play the lack of training card, and you never know someone might actually show you how to do things properly! Every cloud...

This is a management error and not yours.

Clearly your training was insufficient and you cannot be held accountable for it.

Even if you are not in the union speak to your local rep, he may agree to help you as a fellow worker and a fellow human being!

The correct course of action should be retraining!

Hope the decision goes your way mate, we've had postmen suspended for 2/3 months at a time but no one yet got sacked for breaching mail security. They got 2 year gross misconduct.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you and I really do feel for you. I know the training isn't up to much and you're thrown right in at the deep end. Good luck and I really hope you don't lose your job over it.

Been dismissed for this without notice... can you believe I only just got the decision, that's how long it has dragged on for, furthermore to this I think they have treated me really poorly. For the first fact finding interview, it got hand-delivered by manager in late afternoon, wanted me in at 9am next day. For the second fact-finding interview, received the letter at 11.20am in the morning and wanted me in at 12.00 the same day. Needless to say it got re-arranged eventually thanks to my grandad phoning them up and talking to them. (I'm not allowed any contact with Royal Mail...).

Really disappointed, probably will appeal, but not sure whether I am doing it to keep my job, or to clear my name. (More the latter, as I'm fed up with it).

It's took ages for me to find a job (I have a disability so it's really tough), so having this on my P45 will make it even worse. Bad times.

All I can say is, that if I had of known that you are actually meant to keep special deliveries on you at all times, I would never of left in the collection point while I was doing the second-half of my loop (This is after attempting to deliver it).

Genuine mistake seems to merit costing a job, but at the interview, it seems if I had of dropped it on the floor it would of been better because someone would of posted it back!

To make matters even worse, down to my own fault I have had no representation, as I was a new-starter I hadn't got round to joining the union but tried to do it during this, they weren't interested.

That's crappy Zee. They should have helped you more if you were struggling but I guess they are just not interested. Do fight it though even if it's just to clear your name. You weren't given the training or support you should have and the end result is not your fault.

exactly, our Union rep guy would of run rings around them, with some of the information you've given us. not fair on you.

I'm not overly keen on the keeping specials on your person/with you at all times. what if some nutters knows this and attacks you with the intention of stealing several grands worth of jewellery or whatever.
