Yes very happy with the yes vote. One question every one his asking. Why wait till November. Gives Royal mail time to arrange casuals to cover operations. Hope theres a logic behind all this. 3 week wait his very poor.
Hope somebody from the union can shed some light on this

Is a Monday the best/most effective day to strike for delivery staff.
Wouldnt the backlog just get cleared on a Tuesday pretty easily.
Or was that the thought process to minimise pressure on staff next day.

The purpose of the 4th November is to have the biggest march of postal workers since 1971. Now you have to also remember Monday has the biggest workload in an RDC and biggest outward. Mail Centres biggest day is Tuesdays. However lets remember that it is the start of the christmas parcels season and a big computer game is due out that week as well which will cause news.

We've had marches and the battle bus what the members need is ACTION - it won't cause news if they buckle like the Harry Potter fiasco. If we start the action earlier the backlog created would take care of any computer game being issued weeks ahead...........the backlog would create news not some kids computer game, which believe me is no Harry Potter clone - most people would never have heard of it. Lets face it there's now ample time to change courier or even release early.

Don't know why the wait till November - but it would be illegal for RM to use casuals to cover striking staff - so if you see it report it up the Union chain. Last time they started legal action against RM and the agency concerned. Hopefully this time they'll push it through to the end.

They probably cannot use Casuals for the first strike on Nov 4, but they have already employed a lot of casuals to cover the Xmas period. They will probably speed up there security checks and bring them in earlier.

They probably will be mostly used in Mail Centres and Mail Centre/DO offices and at MDEC and the usual warehouse they use these days to clear packets.

It will make very little difference as the backlogs will start to build up if there is a follow up strike.

What do people make of Dave speech about record-breaking long-term guarantees* and wanting to ham-fist RM into not contracting out or using cheaper and inferior contracts?

I think a Private Company will fight tooth and nail for above. Money and T&C is one thing...

* What about workload? And getting people to do the job properly?

Well said dvb, the union & rm have had since april to get their acts together, another 2 wks isn't going to make a jot of difference. I think union have gone abt it all wrong with an all out strike as well. They should have had rolling strikes, the network drivers go out on the Mon, processing Tue, delivery Wed, maximum disruption, which is supposed to be the whole point & purpose.

Some good points, one thing that we must be aware of is there is no failures in mc once Xmas pressure starts, therefore RM won't be 'letting' their customers down if the strikes cause mass back up...?

Remind us again dingo how many CWU postal members there was in 1971 and exactly how many there are now - somehow I have a feeling the march isn't going to break any records. I mean it is 42 years ago
