I know of at least one postie that got caught D&D he kept his job, even after the ban. However, you MUST inform your manager, as far as I know being a Postie is a reportable occupation so Royal Mail will find out.

Ban finished this year, offence about 2 years ago. No idea on "occasional driving"

This is my problem, I was hired as Postman with Occasional Driving, even though I have never need to drive this is still what the job description was.

I still haven't told the DOM as I've been trying to talk to the union man about it first, but as usual his got before I get there and then disappears for the rest of the day, never in his office?

You really need to tell your dom asap, the rep will help you on the aftermath but just simply tell h what's happened and nothing else with out the rep as he will find out, we work in a proscribed occupation so hiding the fact from him will look worse for you when he is informed by the police

Look pumpkin you should tell him, take a friend in with you it doesn't have to be the rep unless it goes beyond the basic information.

And surely if my DOM was to sack me over this then I guess I could apply for the special reasons for my licence to not be taken away, as I would be losing my job over it?

Pumpkin that is a pretty naïve view of your situation. The court would take no account of you losing your job as that would be a consequence of your actions. If I was you I would bank on losing your licence and I would tell the DOM before he asks you - people in your office will know and won't hesitate to tell him.
TBH it's no big deal he'll have experienced similar situations in his career.

Yeah nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I love this job, its probably the only job i've liked and because of this i've stuck with so long, yes there are s**t times as with every job, but i don't know what i would do if i lost this job? My lawyer said if im gonna lose my job over this then I can apply for special reasons for my licence to not be taken from me, she says this has been successful in the past.
My DOM at the moment is a right a-hole and dose everything by the book! which scares me a bit. Everyone in my office absolutely hates him and can't stand him, theres only 3 people in my office that know, and I trust them not to tell anyone else about it.

It's part of your contract of employment that you are required to tell your line manager as soon after you have been charged with an offence, any offence, so you waiting and hiding it from him for a couple of weeks is going to increase the chance of you losing your job, the police usually inform the employer after conviction but some times after being charged, it depends on each police forces policy

It's very rare in drink driving cases for the I need a licence for my job defence to stop you losing your licence, it does happen but you need to face facts you are likely to lose you're licence for around 18 months with a large fine, the sooner you tell your dom the more likely you are to keep your job

I would agree that it's very rare in drink driving cases for the need of a licence for a job defence to stop someone losing their licence, so unusual that such cases often make the news.
incidentally, were you much over the limit ?

I still haven't told my DOM about this, and he hasn't approached me about it, and my case is this week, have I been incredibly stupid by not telling him? Have I left it to late now? Im just so scared of him, he's not approachable at all.
