Totally agree , very sad and once again it makes me feel I'm wasting time in a company that just dont care anymore :( why oh why has common sense gone and greed and ruthlessness took over ?!
Anyway I hope this gets sorted and I hope he makes a recovery .

RMail will stop at nothing these days to make savings and it certainly seems that this includes dismissal as a primary option against those who would dare make their point of view or actions known. There are massive savings when FT staff are dismissed and the days of good working relationships seem to have gone for ever - its not even dog eat dog out there - its more like dog pisses on dog and then decides to eat ...
The CWU isnt effective anymore and its probably down to a combination of factors ... like already stated when you need help / assistance to fight against this type of treatment it just isnt there and probably never will be again.

Ahhh - nostalgia ... its not what it used to be.

First and foremost you should request a meeting with your Branch Secretary. Making sure you have a copy of all the relevant paperwork. If your Branch secretary thinks there is a case for a review this can be sent to CWU HQs for them to contact Royal Mail especially if as you say the rep refused to represent. Your dad would probably be out of time for an ET.

However what concerns me is that it does seem odd that in your first posting you say your dad was suspended and within a week was dismissed. This is very quick given the fact that normally an indivdual is given 48 hours notice of a meeting , that minutes of a meeting are normally given and a fair and reasonable investigation has to have taken place. Did you father request a rep at the protential dismissal meeting and what was he charged and what was on his dismissal letter.

Based on what you said I am thinking there must be more to it as someone being sacked for simply shutting the office when its past his duty time does not seem to add up.

I think now his actually finishing time was 7PM - the office locked at 6:15, he took his break and used the remaining 15 mins to tidy up its and pieces before going home. They say he should have kept it open until 7PM, though he was given no instruction that this was the case.
