1. As pointed out there are vairous types of Mailsort. Almost all DSA (to my understanding is) primarily MS2. It is not economically viable to send mailsort3 dsa as the prices are already so low.
According to what people have said on here their office does not touch MS3 on a Saturday as the agreement (in most cases) is to deliver it between Monday-Friday. When I was in Ops we didn't put MS3 out on a Saturday.
On a general note all of this has to get delivered at some stage, so not entirely sure why people get so anti it on a Saturday, unless we are talking about later finishing and impacting on footie and other weekend activities. However, most MS3 seems to hit the floor where you generally have heavier postiings. Let me give you an example, I used to do a paper round many moons ago. At the weekend the papers were larger, but I still went to the same addresses and did the round in the same amount of time. Apart from heavy bags and screwing up my back it wasn't that much different. Can someone explain why a deliver round would take a huge amount of time extra? I understand that prep time would go up, but would it go up that much? I haven't been in Ops for a little while now, but the bascis should still count.
Someone else also mentioned that doing MS3 on a Saturday can depend on whether you have moved to a standard delivery duty throughout the week. This would seem to make sense. However, in my experience these national agreements seem to vary by office. The more militant ones get away with not putting everything in. Thee who shouts loudest etc...
One other thing to mention as a positive to management was that the bonus's paid out through SDD (however meagre) were in some cases achieved by fudging the figures. Senior management made sure that some offices/areas got their bonus even if they hadn't implemented SDD in all it's glory. Whilst a noble gesture, this may start to explain why you find local set-ups being different even within an area or even a sector.

ATTITUDE
Saturday mentality is, we all want an early finnish, start of the weekend etc etc.
Everyone tends to get their arse's into gear on a Sat, and even if its only 10mins
extra prep & 15min's extra dly its a BIG up yours to RM I want to get home,
and why???
BECAUSE ITS SATURDAY!!!
Change will happen you can not stop progress thats how we as the human race
have evolved, and along with change unfortunatly comes changing our attitude's
that may be our hardest task Leighton & Crozier need to work with us not alienate
us if we are all to survive and keep our business where it belongs, at the forefront.
On saturdays we do have MS3 for delivery but not heeps,we are on shorter hours on a weekend and longer in the week so the agreement with our managers is you can take it if you want or put it in your frame and only take where you are going leave the rest in frame till monday as long as you deliver it monday,use to give us hassel but have stopped or given up with us.
Lets look at the facts. SDD states '' Saturdays will be significantly shorter than weekday attendances and mailsort 3 should not be scheduled for delivery''.
Towns, rurals, it don't matter. Work to SDD cos theres no agreement that superceeds it YET.
we've always been led to believe that "mailsort need not be scheduled for saturday" means that our MS3 that arrives unsorted can wait until monday but the stuff in the mech bundles must be delivered as it may well have reached its due date . . . . . of course the obvious result is everyone claiming that any MS3 they have, arrived unsorted and that's why its been left behind
under sdd it say NO MAILSORT not if it's 'mech' well ... it's a national agreement so you can please yourself as to what you do with it myself i stick it under the frame and if i find any in my mech or manual it goes into the tray down under :lfo :cfo
My thick s**t ops manager tries to tell everyone to take it if it's mech stamped. Dozy twat tried it on me. So i put a the page with NO MAILSORT 3 Scheduled for saturdays. These DIMs and ops managers think they know the rules, but half the time they make it up as they go along.

actually the agreement states "no mailsort 3 need be scheduled for delivery on saturday" so MS3 that has been missorted and then put thru in the mech is outside that agreement . . . . . however in real terms I agree and all MS3 stays in our office come saturday
if ms3 is out of its del time it becomes first class and gets into your coded bundles on a sat,however the words cut off usually mean throw it in and take where you are going in our office
We questioned this as machine operators at my mail centre when the MS3 was sent for prep thru the LSM. The shift manager says 'it had to go'. We queried the fact that it was not compliant with SDD and he insisted it had to go and if we weren't gonna put it through, then we would be suspended.
No ifs, no buts!!!
He said his orders 'came from above...'
At that I took a little snigger at the heavenly bodies of the lord panicking about gettting the MS3 out.... load of bollocks!!
I'll tell ya what it is, it's about RM still picking and choosing the agreements they wanna stick too or manipulate. This is typical of them.

does it say in the agreement ? if it's outa date thats it's to go sure i'd read that in big al's own words ms3 was not due for sat delivery it did not mention if ...out of date , mech , or any other thing the screws might pull out of the hat as an excuse they dont try that one with us guess they are aware that it might lead to some sort of reaction from us posties......
