DirtyHarry, I didn't mean you or me literally. We already have people going in and we have 23% who voted 'NO' who will probably go in eventually. The number is only going to get higher and higher as time goes on - it's not your fault or mine - but if you think differently you are in for a very big shock.
I know a bit about maths and I know about thresholds. A certain point will come when the number of people crossing the picket line will make people say "sod it, we've lost" and go back to work. I don't know where that point is but people are like sheep and it will happen, we have to get results before then.

Every postal worker must be made aware what caving into Lamebrain & Dozier's crazy schemes means. What it means is
this , NO FUTURE IN THE JOB FOR FULL-TIME WORKERS. The future will centre around a business employing a
predominately PART-TIME WORKFORCE. With "modernisation" will come the eventual phasing out of OVERTIME. As I said before,
your mortgage will be worth spit in a couple of years time if we lamely accept Lamebrain & Dozier's sick vision of our
futures.

This isn't really the right topic but a part-time workforce is coming in because of mechanisation. We can't stop it.
People are not going to do a job in this country that can be done better by a machine. I am not busting my gut sorting mail for 4 hours (full time) that can be done in 1 hour by me and 1 minute by a machine. Complaining about machines in taking jobs is very out dated and will go nowhere.
You WILL come to work and prep your mail which is already in walk order. You will spend 30 minutes sorting what can't be done by machine and the rest of your time will be done on delivery. Unless you are prepared to start late so that the mail can get there by the next day and work late to make it a 6 hours delivery you WILL be part time.
I know this post is going to get a lot of slagging off but IT WILL HAPPEN. All we can do is keep a good deal for D2D's, keep the pensions topped up and make as much money as you can in the short term.
I really, really don't know what you think you are going to achieve in these strikes?

A good deal on Door-to-Dustbins ? ............. Keep the pensions topped up ?? ................. First off , it's going to need
Lamebrain & Dozier to actually recognise that they have to sit down with our union's negotiators before any sort
of a deal can be made.
Second , I'm all for trying to keep as many human beings in dignified work as possible , and if machines are an
obstacle to that, then bugger the machines , people have to provide a roof over the heads of their families, put
food on the table , clothes on their backs. How in the name of God are we to do that when these machines
take our places at work ?

Actually tests show that the walk sequencing machines at present will only save 30 mins. Before your post I don't rember anybody complaining about machines. There has been a few posts about what difference they will make and what problems they may cause but that's is called foresight and planning.People are not going to do a job in this country that can be done better by a machine. That's is straight from RM management booklet You will and unless.
If we had not threatened strikes the deliver 5 D2Ds and be paid for 3 would be here already. The pensions issue has not been settled yet so that's 1 reason to stay out. I can also see that your view is quiet short term (i have no problem with that) but most on here are thinking long term and realise that RM wants us to work longer, with heavier or more pouches, for less pay.I know this post is going to get a lot of slagging off but IT WILL HAPPEN. All we can do is keep a good deal for D2D's, keep the pensions topped up and make as much money as you can in the short term.
So why are you striking if you can see no reason to strike you must accept RM position and therefore if you had the courage of your convictions you would have gone to your DOM and asked for an extra 1/5 of a walk with no extra time to do it in, and don't forget to ask for more D2Ds but not accept extra payment for it.I really, really don't know what you think you are going to achieve in these strikes?

why do you bother to come on here, you argue with every point the union makes and seem to want everything big Al wants to give us. . . . You say you're not scabbing, but why is that when you don't agree with the strike or want it to continue . . . . you're either a screw, an idiot or you're just here to annoy people . . . either way I'm with TOMMO and think you should simply be ignored until you say something of interestSpedley wrote: I really, really don't know what you think you are going to achieve in these strikes?

If ever there was a criticism of the system you people admire so much, that was it. With all of the labour saving machinery in industry these days, there is absolutely no reason why everyone should not be on a thirty hour week with no loss of pay. However, we live under a system where the greed of the few is fed by the labour of the many. We operate the machinery, but don't own it. They own the machinery, but don't operate it. We can do without them since it is the labour of the working class which buys the machinery in the first place. Do yourself a favour and read 'The Making of the English Working Class' by E.P. Thompson, 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' by Robert Tressell and 'The ABC of Anarchism' by Albert Meltzer.Spedley wrote:Complaining about machines in taking jobs is very out dated and will go nowhere.

overtime
Spedley, been reading your replies and although I do understand that people have commitments and some including myself are part time, but if at all possible i would suggest not doing the overtime. I know what you are saying about being short of money, but the one thing that you really need to remember is the threats that are being fired at us now, not in the future but now.
Early morning payments gone
D to D payments gone
Election payments gone
Extra hours at certain times of the week because of conditioned hours (never knowing when u are gonna finish)
Pension payments from you increased to cover shortfall.
Team working, how many offices do you think work on a full staff Ha Ha Joke.... I would say probably none so all of a sudden your team of 5 become a team of 4 or 3 or2 cause stress levels and pissed off posties wont be coming to work, so then where is your finishing time cause you will be made to take out all that teams mail, then u will be off with stress.
Cmon do i have to go further to make it sink in, yes we are suffering a little now......................................................................either that or we are going to suffer a lot forever
STRENGTH IS IN UNITY-WE MUST ALL STICK TOGETHER NOW TO WIN
