Yep im a rep since 2001 when i became health and safety rep for my office. started in my office 1991 straight from school as a Postal Cadet the scheme that was supposed to create mangers but created more union reps than managers at least in eastern 5 branch area it did!

Currently the IR rep for my office and safety rep and also branch political officer.

Thinking of giving safety rep job as a mbr has expressed a intrest in doing it. The enthuasim and passion that i had back in 2001 would be good to have back again if the mbr takes over presuming he has that enthuaism and passion.

You get good and bad on both sides, the difference is we cant chose our manager, you can choose your rep and remove the bads ones if you want, trouble is most members don't care about the union till they are in trouble.

I have been a rep for 7 years but I have been suspended.

I was told by my area rep to sign off a revision that was unpopular to my members.

For this I have been suspended and unlikely to be reinstated?

How do you expect to beat Royal Mail when your own union is useless?

This union looks after the "golden boys" and is far too politicised.

i am a rep . we dont get paid for doing this thankless task, but get a whole lot of earache, off people who moan about the job , but still come into work early and cut corners just to suit there own needs. its about time we all stuck together for once and so on , and so on its a thankless task

Yes I am a rep.
Most difficult job I have ever done
Some members are their own worst enemies cutting corners ,over loading bags , using their own cars on delivery, starting hours before the start time etc etc etc
Where do they come when they are in the SH*T knocking on my door.
Just recently I saved 6 driving jobs from going to a MLO then got all of them the Â£380 money how many thanked me ???? not many I can tell you. however had they lost those jobs and gone poss to the bottom of the reserve list I bet all of them would have criticised the Union big time . If you have a rep who is commited he won't care if he dont get a pat on the back but unless you can do better give him your support not constant hassle these are are tough tough times in which to be a REP[/center]

Me too, been very active and committed for 10 years. Can see a lot of hard work ahead.
Already talks about implementing savings without union agreement in rural offices...as I say hard work ahead and well done to this site will be a godsend to share problems.

Are you talking about the ads (i'm not allowed to mention them) at the top

They can't be filtered,they read the forum/posts and put up relevant ads.
For instance if we all started talkin about cakes,you would have adverts for bakeries and the like.
For the record clicking on them cost dhl money

Been a union rep for 8 years and been down the conduct code 3 times, all unfounded. We all know how disheartening this job can be, with management pushing budgets and members only concerned with their own issues. We must always remember that without every rep doing their best we would be in a worst position than we are now. As for bad reps they are all elected every year, so if you're not a rep and think you can do the job use your democratic right and apply for the job. Mind you, its unpaid and the perks are crap, but we're not in it for the money or we'd all be managers. The future is uncertain but that's life. All I can say is be truthful, try your best, ask for advice, inform your members and carry on the good fight. If we don't then Crozier and Leighton are going to become alot richer than they are now and we don't want that do we. Get a yes vote and lets see if this labour government is going to back the workers or the management.
