WHY DONT WE SWITCH TO THE RMT UNION?

i got a feeling i read somewhere that the CWU is the only union that RM will recognise. would explain why you cant have any other form of representation bar a CWU rep or work college at a hearing. don't know how that would pan out if all the members moved union though. does anybody else? would they then be forced to recognise another union?

Union recognition is governed by the law of the land, RMT or any other union would need to see RM workers joining in significant numbers to be recognised by RM.

True, but the problem then would be that the "local" reps would most likely be people employed by firms other than RM, and RM (or at least,some bolshy DOM) could deny those reps access to RM staff or buildings.
Not much help for those times when you need a union rep sat beside you.

What is this desire to join some other union anyway? RM staff would then be just a minor "group" in a much larger organisation with many different sections or factions all needing assistance.
How long before the sheeple would start all the old "that Bob Crow, he's useless he is, he don't do nuffink for us posties he don't" whining?

We'd be rather like the old NCU-represented grades in the current CWU; just members to pay the subs and be quietly forgotten about.....

If you dont do it on mass a branch at a time it will be too small. But region? maybe. But whos going to do it???
First thing we must do is debate our funding of the new liebour mob. We cant be expected to bankroll this lot in opposition after this now can we? Can we?

Obviously we can't switch unions but their tactics are spot on, they are going to withdraw working OT and members working their rest days instead of a full on strike and they are practically crippling services!!

Its strange a lot of people who were annoyed with the calling off of the strikes are now supporting a move to the RMT. As the strike tactic of the RMT is to name a load of dates and withdraw them if progress has been made ( not if an agreement has been reached. )

In anycase whilst the RMT are strong in London , you will find that it is not as strong outside of the capital.

In additon I know a lot think Bob Crow is very strongly supported but a lot in the RMT think he is not strong enough and their hard left often campaigning against him.

We have close relations with the RMT in London and their is mutural respect as they see us as a stronger national union believe it or not. So the grass is not always greener.
