That's why we DID join a trade union BUT the nature of the beast has changed. What we expected from the union is no longer on offer. The union no longer puts it's members aspirations first - we should perhaps call it a mutual friendly society -
Here in lies the problem the union has been busy prostituting itself to private courier workers it can not fight our corner properly against the government and the dss etc using tnt, for fear of upsetting its new found members in the private sector, they should off load them to another union so they can fight for the Royal Mail workers who made the union what it is/was

Did you find the managers tub of brainwashing pills and take a few?dvbuk55 wrote:Nothing lasts forever. As for the CWU and fair representation well we didn't have that in the first place. Pretty soon Sunday working will be a thing of the past anyway. If I was an employer I would certainly look at ways to get rid of contracts like that. I know it affects you considerably but looked at dispassionately it isn't the most cost effective method for productivity is it?

Nope just a realist - one hours work, one hours pay, just like the vast majority of employees everywhere. It would be unlikely that you would get 8 hours you don't work on buy down - why not have the 8 hours you do work on buy down and just send you the 8 hours pay for the other 8 hours then you wouldn't have to work at all?booby wrote:Did you find the managers tub of brainwashing pills and take a few?dvbuk55 wrote:Nothing lasts forever. dvbuk55... thats a top idea, thats the sort of thinking we should have had a chance to debate when this whole thing started, instead of the rep skulking off and signing away my contract without any consultation input or ideas from us!

Joking apart booby - have you not checked if yours is a SPECIFIC CONTRACT i.e. one preserved for a specific task on a specific day? If your work plan has not changed, the work still needs to be done then there is no reason for your duty to disappear - under this agreement and under the flexibility element there is give and take and if you have family commitments specific to this duty then you should have your rep fight your corner.booby wrote:dvbuk55... thats a top idea, thats the sort of thinking we should have had a chance to debate when this whole thing started, instead of the rep skulking off and signing away my contract without any consultation input or ideas from us!![]()

........Our Union Rep "signed off" the agreement without any prior consultation with the staff! This was confirmed this morning by our Dom in the WTL.....And our Union Rep was not even there to explain why?????? Silly me! thinking that a few proposals would be put to us by our Union rep and that we could decide the best proposal for flexability!
Shafted Yet Again!!!
this rep has always been far too cosy with dom. even when strikes were on last year the rep was nowhere to be seen.
watch out. there may be a dom about
