Just go do your job get paid (which in itself is sometimes a battle) and go home, try not to stress about what anyone else is doing or getting away with or it'll spoil your life.

If they ask you to leave some of your own duty in order to take lapsing then speak to your rep and ask him to raise it in the weekly resourcing meeting as there is quite clearly an issue with staffing levels. Regarding lapsing if people want to skip their breaks and not do the job properly i.e using the LWT's, vehicle checks, trying neighbours etc etc then people are only giving the company more ammunition to cut jobs and lapse more duties. Simple as that

f***ing arseholes refusing to do lapsing come back early and go home, those with a conscience get asked to take it on overtime and the arseholes get away with it time after time and if challenged go on a go slow, why cant we sack em?

You shouldn't be allowed to refuse lapsing stating you haven't got time but then come back early and go home! That's bad management and wouldn't happen in my office, we would be made to go back out with any work still in the office or if there was none just stay in the office until time.leolion855 wrote:f***ing arseholes refusing to do lapsing come back early and go home, those with a conscience get asked to take it on overtime and the arseholes get away with it time after time and if challenged go on a go slow, why cant we sack em?
Surely after you've done it once a manager has got a great arguement to make you take it in future?

refusing to do lapsing
I’m reading this thread and a first timer posting here. In my office. Even If you lapsed which we do. 3-4 duties daily. and returned before finishing time you would be sent back out again anyway with whatever was left in as “ overtime “or made to put the following days households up if there is nothing left. There is no carrot. Because of this the whole office is on a go slow ( if your not on one of the many unbalanced/unachievable duties)

If the DOM's don't deal with it, higher up will eventually question about it based on the PDA actualscitypostie wrote:You shouldn't be allowed to refuse lapsing stating you haven't got time but then come back early and go home! 1.Get all in and get specials
2.Inform Lino
3.Say you don't think you can flex
4.Let them count it.
5.Agree a time to call them on PDA
(because figures always say you can do it(
6.Call on PDA (if you realise you can't get it done)
7.If they answer, ask them what do they want you to do with mail that you can't finish
8.No answer, bring back on your time.
This is surely all you can do .

Not finding a manager in the office after 1pm makes it hard for them to challenge anyone coming back early after refusing lapsing.

The way I did it was looked at the amount of mail as I walked in or did IPS shook my head chuntered throw walk out complained like hell constantly accosting the managers verbally in front of everybody. Went and had a meal relief/break came down to find said managers f***ing my walk up which made me bring more back or that they actually managed to find someone to do the work including themselves and never did take any lapse or extra.

I've started asking the manager to show me the figures. (i'm not sure how this 'model week' thing works, but there's a figure thats meant to be used, if it's under, we lapse).WOBBLY wrote:Recently on a busy day the dim put on Lapsing. Now quite clearly this was to cover sick and not because we had any spare time in the day.
If the days figure isn't low then I don't have time to lapse. If it is low, I compare it with the previous day. If it's the same, and I went over, then I clearly don't have time to lapse.

refusing to do lapsing
Sorry to bring this thread back from the grave but the issue has come up again this morning so some advice would be appreciated. Our DOM has taken it upon himself to reckon that unagreed lapsing should be taken with you when leaving the office. Now, a couple of years ago our area rep told us that if it's unagreed then you are under no obligation to take it with you but, if you are back early, then you are expected to work your full hours. DOM reckons it's in the national agreements which, really, is quite laughable as they cherry pick what parts of agreements fit their aims for any given time. Anyway, what's the procedure where you are/official procedure?
PS. Haven't been here for years but it's good to see the same standard of info and solidarity. Cheers! :)

Poke (welcome back!) area rep is wrong, it's a reasonable instruction from the screw so you can't ignore it even if you know you are going to bring it back because you have no time to do it.
Lapsing/absorption is there to take you up to your time, if you think you are going to go over you use the over running procedure with or without the extra work giving to you.
Reps should really be on the ball with this willy nilly lapsing/absorbing s**t.
Inform the screws (with a witness/rep present) that with the lapsing there may no be a possibility that you will finish and what does he/she want you to do.

On completion of their preparation, where an employee believes that they may experience difficulty
in completing their delivery within the authorised time allotted, they should approach their manager
as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem
and advise the employee what particular action should be taken, including the consideration of
collection on delivery around associated post boxes to enable USO compliance.
When an employee has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager believes that assistance
is not required, the decision, along with the advice given to the employee, should be recorded and
associated with the daily traffic volume record. The employee can have access to this record and
may ask to see it prior to commencement of their delivery.
The employee should be encouraged to see their union representative if agreement cannot be
reached. Instances where there is a difference of opinion between the employee and the manager
about what is possible during the shift will be looked at individually within the unit on the basis of
factual evidence. Such differences will be addressed prior to the employee leaving the office for
delivery.
The employee and manager should agree a specified time to phone if full completion of delivery
workload within the allocated time proves not to be possible. If it becomes obvious that the delivery
may be a problem, the employee can contact the manager before the arranged time.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
