The manager is horrendous to deal with hardly showing any sympathy to me after my mum died didn’t even express a concern when I came in after having a day off briefly said I’m sorry to hear that and give you day off a funeral when I asked for two he basically said you have to take it on paid and said we are shortstaffed so I rather you didn’t! He also hardly ever pays the correct overtime loads of people have complained about this the office is a complete nightmare and I think it’s going to hit the fan soon It appears to only be getting worse I will certainly be looking to take this further now. I’m not sure how you put a grievance in if anyone can point me in the right direction I think it’s my Nextep thank youaiden01 wrote:Don't let it go unpaid hopefully area rep is a good 1 an will tear manager to shreds. would personally put a grievance in against so called manager.mlw wrote:yes I see it says 5 days pay so don’t know why he decided to take 2 days pay away which has left me short in my bank account and no one to intervene. The forms are old ones but a grievance can be just a sheet of paper detailing your grievance and what your preferred solution is, so if the manager tries to reject them don't accept their decision.

Thanks.i know what you mean they are winding people up deliberately and unfortunately union isn’t doing enough. We are being bullied by Dom to finish walks every day even if it is heavy day and he doesn’t pay correctly the overtime. Can’t get holidays you want and I still have 10 days to use this year yet he says we have no spare weeks! I’ve just about had enough now and I think he is wrong from putting me down for unpaid days.endofdays1982 wrote:not nice, just shows you how horrible a company royal mail are, just unfortunate we got a really weak union, if we had a strong one royal mail would not take the piss out of its workers on a daily basis,

Shocking ! I know you're entitled to a weeks leave, personally I would have gone sick and put it down to bereavement and f**k the management !
He is being a total dick ! As such does not deserve your dedication or respect.
Its not too late to go sick and put it to belated bereavement as it can happen with anyone, we all process grief in different ways and a delayed reaction is part of that.
His uncaring attitude is a good reason go sick.

Agree with you totally,I will certainly be going sick soon the way it’s going it’s a shay because most posties are good people and as jobs go I quite enjoy it but management are a total disgrace and it’s time fame to get union involved although I’m not convinced as manager seems to squirm hiyeay out of everythingNWpostie wrote:Shocking ! Your entitled to a weeks paid special leave, if you require any more days use annual leave or take it as your day off. Am speaking from experience. My mum died a few years ago, and more recently, my partner, never had any problems with needing time off, can't fault RM

My father passed away recently - I'm next of kin and arranged the funeral - I got a weeks paid leave (5 days) after his death plus a special leave day (Paid) for the day of the funeral. This was arranged with the help of the union rep and shift manager. Shocked and disgusted how the Original Poster has been treated.

mlw - that is an utter f###king disgrace.
You are entitled to five days paid leave. Plus one day for the service.
This happened to me many years ago when my dad passed away. I got told it was three days. And I had to use two lieu days to make the week up. Personally I did not have an argument in me. As I was so upset. I got a copy of the way forward agreement. Bided my time (a month). Walked into his office. Slapped it on the desk - and requested my two Lieu days be returned. They were.
When it was mums turn. I just took the week off. Plus an extra day.
Reading stories like this boils my urine. Sorry for your loss. Keep your head down. Don’t mention a word to anyone. But I suggest you get hold of a HR1 form.

Not paid for mums funeral
when my mam died a few years ago they tried to alter my day off to coincide!
then on the morning after her funeral a rather nasty voicemail was left asking why i wasn't in work
i only wanted the day off originally but after they tried to screw me over i took a week off,
my rep sorted out all the nitty gritty and not a single word was said to me on my return, and no apology either,
this was back in the day when 11am finishes was late and all management were usually approachable too

If you have a good Sick record go off with stress, induced by your loss and by the underhand way the Dom has taken advantage of you in a time of need. There's nothing worse than feeling undervalued with no sympathy. He should be sacked. Take six weeks off to sort yourself out. Sorry to hear of your loss, you really don't need this stress on top of it.
