I was a rep until I moved area's and it work as this.

you are based at Delivery Office A, this is your place of work.
you are asked to go to Delivery Office B, this is not your place of work, even though you will only be working there on this day and no where else.
you NEED business insurance for your car. end of story, you crash you will be in trouble not RM. You!

you start at your Home DO at your official start time, you then DO NOT use your car, it is down to RM to get you to the loaning DO ( Van, Taxi, Bus, Train, Lift from Manager etc ) you also finish at your Home DO at your official finish time, so make sure Travel time at the end of the day is still within your working day.

you will then be home every day to look after your child and life will be good.

IF you are still intent on using your car, same rules apply to Start / finish times. BUT make sure you claim for the milage you are doing, 45p a mile I believe is the going rate ( may have changed though )

if you make it difficult for them to move you around, they will soon stop. But please show this post to the next person they try and move around.

Where do I state that Reps do insurance Policies?
Are you a professional troll ( albeit not a very good one )

as a rep I needed business insurance as I could be asked to go to different offices / courses at any time. it did not cost me any extra to have it added, but covered my travel during RM time etc. The Original Poster has asked for advice and I have offered him the official line as I see it.

feel free to drive your car as you see fit, but don't come in here asking for advice if heavens forbid, you have an accident on the way to another office and end up on the wrong side of the law for not having the correct insurance.

Yes, business insurance is required to travel to another office. In actual fact, Royal Mail make new starts attending inductions at places that will not be their permanent place of work aware of this on their welcome email.

It states “If you are planning to travel by car to your Welcome Day please ensure you are adequately covered by your car insurance as you may be attending a different location than your future workplace.“

So they are well aware of this, also it is against the law for your employer to ask you to break the law. So refusing to use your own car is reasonable. My advice would be to use public transport and claim the expenses back if the office is closer than your own or travel by car to your own office and have your manager provide the transfer to another office and back.
The latter is more likely to stop them moving you as travel time will be included in your working hours.

As an ex insurance worker.

You can travel to places of work, in your car and if you had an accident, you’d be ok. You CANT use your car to deliver mail.

Yes, but you won’t get pulled on it for going to any place of work, it’s based on a company, not a building.
You will be fine.

Just don’t use your car for business purposes

Exactly what it says on mine too. Take no chances, cos if an insurance company can find any loophole to avoid paying out they will.

This covers it. ^^
To my mind every office should have the numbers of staff it requires to clear the office of mail each day. Not more and not less. If you are required to go to other offices make it as problematic for RM as possible without breaking any rules but never use your own transport even if you do have the additional insurance cover.

Well this has got a few more replies than i had imagined

I work in a small office and we are under the same cost centre as the larger office i go to, in essence it's a twinned office. I go to this office when no one is on holiday at my office, which leaves me with no work.

Yes i get paid for my mileage there and back, insurance is covered so not a problem,

My main thing is the getting back home in time without any hassle from the DOM in regards to others lapsing that hasn't been completed. I've always been able to complete my days work, it's the odd case that if i get back maybe half an hour early and they try to make me do more, but i need to use that time to get home.
