I'd have though that the CWU would have wanted their members to actually see these videos rather than have them hidden away in the depths of Vimeo...
If you start with an entrenched position...like protecting full-time jobs then anything that undermines that position like the muscular injuries report which shows that longer deliveries are causing real medical issues with our members or these failed trials that undermine the proposed efficiencies that will drive the shorter working week are ignored but there's only so long you can bury your head in the sand.

The union needs a serious dose of reality, a predominantly full-time workforce based on longer deliveries is a busted flush. Most of the delivery staff could have told them that years ago but still they refuse to listen.

Ultimately the savings at royal mail will come from automation, not tweaking the delivery process. Get everything out in 1 wave, 95% mech, have all the little packets walk sorted, collate d2ds. There'd be next to no need to throw any mail into the frames.

Physically impossible unless you want DO staff to be delivering stuff during the evening. Also 95% mech is unlikely to ever happen

NOTHING is impossible. If someone had told me several years ago that 2 poetics would be sharing a van, with walks lasting up to 6 hrs and delivering parcels I would have bet my house on it not happening. Thankfully I'm not really into betting.

Suppose the whole idea of this is you tie your walk up sit in your van and have the last box of mech thrown at you and your partner is sat in the back of the van with all the bags with the bench merging tool whilst being thrown about in the back of the van and by the time you get at the start of the walk you are good to go!  :Sick

It's not impossible.
It just takes a stroke of the pen.

You cannot improve long term efficiency on the cheap. Forget bench merging as its not going to work on bigger duties, plus the last thing you want to be doing when you are out delivering is carrying a few bundles of mail and sorting it through while you walk because thats when accidents are more likely to happen - as you're not looking where you are going.

Doing it properly really means investing millions in new machines and staff to man them in order to get the mail and even small packets out in one wave just like norm said, but I'm not entirely sure if RM itself wants to go down this road.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

You'd be looking at ending all sequencing otherwise some offices their sequenced wouldn't be available to around midday so DOs would probably be 12:00-20:00 and that would be assuming that MCs have the staff and space to sort it, some might not have the space as they'd be doing 2C at that point

At that point - now. But there is nothing stopping Royal Mail changing the work plan, or least attempting to.

Also, some DOs haveing fully prepped walks by the Mail Centre and passed out as such to part-timers isn't something new, its called the Dutch Model for obvious reasons. Arrival at a central location for those working while their children at a school - its a wet dream for Royal Mail.

Change in a massive way is coming for everyone, its how we embrace or fight it that will make the difference - even in Mail Centres.

I'm not sure it was very wise of whoever to release these videos on social media mainly as there was little mail and no small packets in any of the slots. There were loads of groups of slots completely devoid of any mail whatsoever. Maybe there are areas of the country that have these kind of amounts of mail but it certainly not representative of our delivery office even on an extremely light Tuesday which are very rare anyway.
The delivery method trials have failed and been cancelled anyway and Moira's grand plan of future cost-cutting has turned into a RM pipe dream. The only possible good to come from it will be if D2D are delivered to us in sets in cardboard boxes so we can carefully lift them out and fill our frames with them. That would save time and enable the SWW to be implemented properly instead of more work being done unpaid.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

That's because there's no mech in there and the MC is allegedly supplying 95% mech...although I doubt they got close to that.

More likely 80% mech at the absolute best.

All seems very silly, but nice to see some of the other guys from around the country and their frames. We could have CWU videos on 'best practice' indoor and outdoor, bundling up, there is a lot of double handling that goes on with parcels for example, in my experience new people are not shown these things and make it up as they go along. Work place coaches never have the time it seems.
