Because their contract should state they are full time!
So can I keep my 38hr wage and drop down to 35hr “full time”

Maybe ask your DOM tomorrow. The fact remains that if contracts are suggesting that 35hr is now FT,employees on 35hrs should be entitiled to the full Christmas bonus.

I find it very odd that you would begrudge anyone this
“Shorts,in this weather?!”

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

“What’s she been ordering now?”

By definition part-time is someone who works fewer hours than full-time.
I actually believe 35 hours should currently be classified as part-time - However

The four pillars agreement states;
"...New full time employees from October 2018, recruited either from existing employees or new recruits in the core OPG grade, will be on a 35 hour week..."

If your contract states full-time as 35 hours then why not assume you will be entitled to maximum xmas bonus.

More Importantly does this mean that someone on a 35
hour f/t contract would be paid s/a rate for any s/a hours worked above their contracted 35. Currently nobody is paid an enhanced rate until they have worked 39 hours.

EDITED
No. 589/18

16th October 2018

Dear Colleagues,
Four Pillars Agreement: OPG 35 Hour Full-Time Duty Deployment ..........

.......However, until we have concluded our discussions the following principals should be applied;
 All core full-time OPG duties should continue to be based on a 38 hour conditioned working week where operational hourage permits.

 In line with the terms of the Agreement, 35 hour contract holders (who can and are able to be aligned to cover a 38 hour duty) should be remunerated at single-rate overtime/scheduled attendance up to 38 hours, after which any additional hours will be paid at the appropriate overtime/scheduled attendance rate.

 If an individual who holds a 35 hour contract covers or commits to performing a 38 hour week core duty long-term, then either a variation in the contract should be agreed that covers the additional 3 hours, or alternatively the hours should be treated as scheduled attendance.
Colleagues are reminded that all matters relating to resourcing are proper to the IR Framework which includes the introduction and operation of the OPG 35 hour week duties.
Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department quoting reference 24000.

Yours sincerely,
Terry Pullinger Deputy General Secretary (Postal)
Ray Ellis Assistant Secretary
Andy Furey Assistant Secretary
Davie Robertson Assistant Secretary
Mark Baulch Assistant Secretary

Yes, that's the Christmas bonuses, though not sure of the relevance to this thread.

However to add - part-timers and FT35 hours can possibly get a temporary uplift of their contracts over Christmas https://www.cwu.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... .11.18.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So Full-time get the same Xmas bonus for 38hrs as they did when they were 39hrs & will receive same when reduced to 37hrs & 35 eventually.
35hrs "full-time" staff will get £200 pro-rata - So they are really Part-time at present.

I feel like we are going around in circles here.

If 35hr contracts are being handed out & being classed as full time,why the hell should employees on 35hrs not receive the full Xmas bonus?

It doesn’t make sense

I began this thread by raising the fact that several colleagues had their hours increased to 35 but their contracts stated they were Part-time. A deputy manager stated it was a mistake but there were too many (circa 12) contracts to change!.

Hero22 has posted a response which states his paperwork says 35hrs Full-time.

The LTB No. 589/18 relating to the subject confirms confusion etc.

EDIT;

"Unfortunately, for reasons not attributed to the CWU, no such dialogue has taken place. It is therefore extremely disappointing to learn that various un-agreed guidelines and instructions are being circulated throughout the country. This has not only caused confusion to both managers and local representatives but in some instances is in direct conflict with the terms of the current National Agreement(s) the Union has with the employer that cover resourcing.
This situation is totally unacceptable to the CWU and is clearly outside of the Guiding Principles Agreement along with the agreed mutual interest approach to future challenges and opportunities that the Union and Royal Mail have signed up to...."

Mainly because the xmas bonus is basically a /hour bonus.
There isn't a full time and part time xmas bonus. A 30 hour/week OPG won't receive the same xmas bonus as a 25 hour/week colleague.

Or are you arguing they should also be on full pay (the same as a 38 hour contract) even though they work 3 hours less.

And anyway the definition given as "part time" is a dictionary definition not a legal definition.
My partner works less than 35 hours/week and is classified as full time.
When we applied for a mortgage nobody was in the least bit interested in what the definition was or how many hours she worked, the only bit that matters is what you take home.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

1.So as the xmas bonus is an / hour bonus - should those who were on 39hrs now receive less on 38hrs.
2. Pre- October a colleague had a contract of 35hrs which specified Part-time, he is now considered Full-time.
3.At Royal Mail anyone working fewer than 35hrs is on a part-time contract.
4. The mortgage question may differ to each application.
