I agree and with the pensions proposals this is a dereliction of care upon us all as one day we all will become old.fishtank wrote:I think part of any agreement has to address the increased outdoor workload and the average age of our delivery staff, the business at present has no strategy for dealing with older members of staff other than getting rid of them through IHR. In the past processing offered some kind of escape route when delivery became physically too demanding but that's no longer a viable option.
Even PostNL which has always been a favourite model for the business has a strategy for dealing with older members of delivery staff, it is absolutely embarrassing that Royal Mail is allowed to bury its head in the sand over an issue that can only get worse with a poorer pension on offer, a longer wait for state pension, no MTSF and no default retirement age.

So is the plan to have basically the same workload as we have now or a bit more & do it in 35 hours as apposed to 39.
If this is the case then surely overtime opportunities on an enhanced hourly rate would be a good pay rise.

Its Ok the CWU clamouring for a shorter working week but all I can see is more pressure, bullying and intimidation being put on staff working 'outdoors' doing bigger duties/more lapsing, collection work etc etc because Royal Mail managers will be spouting stuff like "well we are paying £££ more per hour now"
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

i would've though lapsing will become unachievable if we have less time to do the duty. after all, it is only ''supposed'' to be enabled if you do not have enough work to take you to your finishing time.

And the rest of itdingo wrote:Yes the CWU are not agreeing to Royal Mails plans and have proposed a united pension scheme for all which is significantly better than the DC scheme Royal Mail want.
The reality is if not for the union We would be working under Royal Mail plans already and with a Inferior DC scheme.

Sadly without a Shorter Working Week the only way you will have enough hours is doing longer spans ! Why ? Indoor work is reducing due to automation. CSS , Tops 2000 doing flats , the buddy system, parcel machines and within the next year the New CELLs machines which will sequence large letters and flats.
2. Sadly Mail volumes apart from tracked and PS items are reducing. Very concerning is that following referendum and uncertain future traffic has stalled.
Thirdly Royal Mail want to use GPS and finger scanners so they know exactly your hourage not either your attendance times how long you work to pay you.
On top of these time outdoors is increasing through a combination of door step scan , tracked , delivery to neighbour and parcels. Royal Mail aim to trial perdict and allow customers to change where their parcel is delivered via the PDA.
So the reality is indoor work is decreasing , outdoor work is increasing. The company want you to work all the hours they pay you for the choice is :
Try and fill 39 hours meaning longer spans or reduce the Working Week and have a lesser span.
In terms of bullying Royal Mail have said that if individuals scan in and out of every task and than scan back we will be able to see the hours someone actually works and if they work their full hours than they can't be bullied.
We know that is tosh but that is the real position. Anyone who does not believe we need to reduce the Working Week needs to understand what the business wants too do.

Look at all our competitors minuimn wage most , living wage a few , no sick pay only SSP, yodel and others are even getting around this by forcing staff to go self employed under the gig enconomy where employees than don't even have to pay minimum wage but price per successful delivery.rubberbond wrote:And the rest of itdingo wrote:Yes the CWU are not agreeing to Royal Mails plans and have proposed a united pension scheme for all which is significantly better than the DC scheme Royal Mail want.

Some really need to wake up , our terms and condistions account for over 70% of Royal Mail costs and are stopping them winning new contracts. Do you really think that Without the CWU your job would be easier on the same terms and conditions ??

I would be interested with all this big brother technology RM are threatening with that in certain areas it would backfire if members had sense & did the job properly.
But sadly reality is most would still try & beat the clock.
This is why I think that for most areas RM are bluffing with all this only pay for hours worked as they know what they get in goodwill, people running round to get finished early & people not claiming because of intimidation far outweighs any savings they could make with these methods.

Thanks Dingo for several illuminating posts about pensions and the shorter working week. Perhaps a 'Shorter Working Week Bulletin' should be circulated to get the message 'out there' in the workplace to all CWU members as an additional strand to the 4 Pillars of Security official communications !

No they wouldn't - no-one is that stupid.gb93 wrote: But sadly reality is most would still try & beat the clock.
The whole RM threat of posties being shifted on to zero hours contracts/paid for what we work etc is a load of BS. Its a hollow threat and a red herring. Because with the number of red tape procedural crap that they expect us to conform and comply with in order to cover their own arses, they know as well as we do that if we were all to do the job in the manner that they prescribe then a) their costs would rise exponentially and b) the City would be truly f****d off.
And they don't want that.

Are the CLLS machines meant to replace the CSS machines? I know that the XMS machines will make all iLSMs, IMPs and maybe even TOPS2K machines redundant. Are RM going to have the CSS machines retrofitted to handle flats as well?

On logistics isn't it 36 hours 15 mins. No paid meal reliefs?dingo wrote:
In terms or meal reliefs our claim is to still have paid meal reliefs. However professional drivers do not have paid meal reliefs and currently work a 35 hour net Working Week.

I've worked for a driving agency you get paid a minimum of 8 hours ( unless specified ) incorporated into those 8 hours is a paid 45 minute break. Think it is now the law.cloherty1976 wrote:On logistics isn't it 36 hours 15 mins. No paid meal reliefs?dingo wrote:
