You are right - they also get their salary for three months when voted out - now if you and me get sacked we get our weeks pay and sweet FA.

As all members will be aware that the industrial action we took was also about the changes Royal Mail want to make to our pension fund. However many of you will be under the false impression that the pension issue has been put to one side. This is not what 'decoupled' means. The executive have agreed a joint statement on pensions, this accepts that normal retirement age will now be 65 and the ceasing of the final salary scheme and replacing with a career average scheme CARE. Legally this is the only agreement the employer needs to have to change the scheme the bosses union has already agreed the changes. If the pay and modernisation agreement is accepted we are agreeing that the pension scheme will be changed.

It is true to say that the executive have said that we will be balloted after the 60 day consultation period. However Royal Mail does not have to honour the result of the vote or even change anything as it has the agreement of the trustees in the joint statement.
This is one reason why the branch is urging all members to VOTE NO in the forthcoming ballot.

Appears to be a huge amount of confusion on whether the 2 deals are seperate or not. As far as I can see the Pay ballot will be over and done by the time we get anywhere near the consultation on pensions. Surely only way RM can renage on any yes vote for pay is not to pay - hope this makes sense.

After the consultation period - which is to be the biggest debate ever - you wll then be given a vote - BUT it does not say it is a veto - we may well get a vote though I wonder what sort of vote it will be.

You are right the vote wont be a veto but while I expect a yes on pay I expect a big no on the pensions - this will provide a huge dilema for the PEC. If it is a masive and vitriolic no then there may have to be another vote for action. This I expect is why RM is jumpin up and down cos it doesn't matter wot they or BB (Brendan Brarber, not Bugs Bunny!) say they cant stop us takin further action if that's wot we decide.

Royalmail says the pay and modernisation agreement is inclusive of pension change and says so on their site on 22 / 10 / 2007 in their currant news page look for yourself at royalmail.com

Incidentally I don't believe we have the right of veto on the pension and that the union have actually agreed the pension changes. They have been quite duplicitous in their dealiings with the membership. The talk of decoupling merely meant that a seperate ballot will take place NOT that they were in any shape or form actually opposed to the changes.

In the same way that I believe there has been some deal done on D2D - I'd love to see the transcript of the meetings.

Do you mean the managers union (unite) or (CMA) which other unions are there?
