Yeah fully accept and understand the op's concern but I'm working my tits off in a D.O. just like most others on here and to be perfectly honest I couldn't give a fook either if his canteen was shut !!

Wowee. Others may disagree but I believe that is a massive overreaction to what I have said.

I told you what those of us on delivery have to do on a daily basis and made it very clear that you are evidently in a privileged position in the company to be able to make use of canteen facilities normally. I do sincerely apologise if you felt that I was in any way 'attacking' you. I know that text when read can come across differently to how it was meant to be read, so I suppose that must have happened here.

Again, apologies for the misunderstanding. I'll go now and eat my cold sandwiches. Pheasant currently is on the menu as I hit a bird last week. Bonus.

came into work on the 4th Jan.only to discover there was no canteen open.....
spoke to management and got nothing extra like extra on our break to go to local shops etc.
no union men available due to all being at there monthly meeting......so?

I would have put in a grievance due to the inflexibility and unreasonableness of the manager to give you extra time for this exceptional circumstance. RM have leeway under the USO that in exceptional circumstances (flood, snow) they can delay deliveries so why don't RM likewise allow their staff leeway in your circumstance? Replenishing energy stocks is VITAL is a physical job and they could have caused a diabetic sufferer to go into a coma.

Practically on the day I would have taken time from my break to visit a shop, would have noted the lost time and charged RM for that lost time with a letter to the DOM with a copy going to the Area RM manager.
