Judgee, don't forget that over the last fiveish years there's been a big cut in the number of MCs, it was only a matter of time before RM turned their attention to DOs. MCs have changed a fair bit, everyone's workrate is monitored (figures for the amount of work sorted every hour), once the new PDAs come in, RM will be able to monitor individuals, with the tracking of parcels (the tracking of all mail apart from d2ds is going to happen sooner rather then later).

Say your walk had 1,000 delivery points, how many of those 1,000 would have letters and flats (whether signed-fors or not) and how many of them 1,000 would have parcels (inc Tracked and Specials)

830 houses have mail, 100 have attendance calls and 150 have non attendance tracked/delivery scan. But then 10 - 20% of the attendance calls have Delivery to neighbour implications (which take no extra time )

Also managers and non delivery workers can bandy as many figures as they want, but it doesn't matter how many houses you have, its how long it takes you to deliver the items.

A back to back street can have the same amount of houses, parcels, letters and attendance calls as a leafy suburb street of Semis, but the leafy suburb will take 2 - 3 times longer on average. That's ignoring the socio-economic factors that impact on deliveries.

It is a different world and I think a bit of cross functional experience (in both directions) would help improve efficiency immensely.
