Then you are a lot better off than us. They won't allow us to do wallington week shift patterns and are getting zero SA.... perhaps I should move to your office!music4essex wrote:i work in an essex Office, we were told yhis week , we would get xmas hours at s.a. rate, but if you are on waddingtons anytime , during the xmas two weeks , then you will not get the payment , the payment is against the duty , not the person ,![]()

Re: Christmas Deal
I work o/t although the year. Ever since I can remember at our DO we were given pressure hours at Xmas . This year however we were told it is going to be based on workload to resources . Royalmails great new way for saving money and screwing the workforce . The same system they use when deciding lapsing. So guess what, as from Dec, my colleagues and I will not be doing any O/T including our rest days . We have 11 sick and are very short staffed. So our management and other managers in the area will have to do a delivery if they want a clear office. Unless of course they offer us hours! What do you think they will do?

Good luck westham! I hope you can unite your office in some kind of group refusal of overtime. Unfortunately, I expect that won't be possible where I am as we have too many mercenaries!

Re: Christmas Deal
need to be very very careful doing something like a group refusal of overtime, it can be classed a work to rule and classed as unofficial industrial action if done without going through the ir process, which in turn could land the cwu in hot water. individuals deciding individually just to do their contracted hours would be ok buy not as a group decisionJudgee wrote:Good luck westham! We don't have deals, we aren't 'given' hours. In my office it's no different to any other time of the year. You claim the overtime when you go over.

I don't really understand these xmas agreements.dingo wrote:We have reached an agreement with management in London over Christmas hourage which will be reported to Area Reps tomorrow and then put to local reps and then members .
Say the agreement is for 20 hours over the pressure. If I work 21 hours over I get paid 21 hours.
If I work 10 hours over I get paid 20.
So who is the union actually negotiating for when they come up with a xmas agreement?

Re: Christmas Deal
The Christmas deals are called block hour deals so every individual in an office full time , part time and reserve would be entitled to 20 hours in addition to their normal SA hours. If any of the staff in post opted out their 20 hours would go in a pot to fund extra nights or pre starts.
You would then put say hours on nights , pre starts and than on the heavier days you would say this day is worth an hour per duty.
Years ago these deals were common place but over time only a few areas still have them in place and most areas get hours on an ad- hoc basis.

Re: Christmas Deal
so in effect ghost overtime, not critisising it, just pointing out that others on this forum say it's banned, clearly it's not actually banned, it's against aspirations of agreements regarding working all paid hours. But it is perfectly acceptable for offices to have such deals for covering overtime

Re: Christmas Deal
I would not call in ghost overtime , when you say on the peak days at christmas everyone in the office is going to be on the IPS longer , Prep longer , going to have an higher call rate , more attendance calls so will be out on delivery longer that you naturally put the office on a hour extra for that day. Is that not rescuing to workload ?

Re: Christmas Deal
paying 20 hours overtime regardless of whether it is actually worked or not, fits the definition of ghost overtime ie getting paid hours but not actually working them, by the way I don't think this agreement London have made is wrong, just pointing out to others it is allowed when other Doms do similar to clear offices at other times of year

Re: Christmas Deal
Interesting.
I just phoned HR to find out about something. I asked about the bonus. they told me it was only £100 and it is prorate depending on if you are sick or not. I thought that was completely incorrect??
they did say it will be on the 18th though

Rescuing to workload - now there is a novel idea LOLdingo wrote:I would not call in ghost overtime , when you say on the peak days at christmas everyone in the office is going to be on the IPS longer , Prep longer , going to have an higher call rate , more attendance calls so will be out on delivery longer that you naturally put the office on a hour extra for that day. The fact remains - the block deal is an irrelevance to someone actually working all those hours and a nice little sweetheart deal for those that don't.
Were all the p/t staff given the option of full time hours for the xmas pressure, ensuring they get the full bonus, or not?
