Diabetes will be classed as a disability and covered by the DDA. The absences arising from this will normally discounted.

Absences relating to pregnancy and accidents
at work or disability may be discounted when
deciding if your attendance levels meet with
required standards.

Sicknesses covered by DDA should not normally be counted , for them to count these they should give you prior warning in writing.

Also back to work interviews, did you have them all? If not say that had you had back to works and been offered support then some of your absences may have been avoided. They have proceedure to follow too
