Can you prove that?

I mean where's your evidence?
Well it may well be in the same place as the evidence for you to have a 2 hour freebie Christmas party in works time :cuppa
I've got roughly three weeks to come up with something.
Some convincing argument.
At least get management to buy us some free food after working so hard.
Because you have worked so hard don't be fobbed off with a bit of free grub, no no, you should have balloons, decorations, Father Christmas so you can sit on his knee and not least of all a sack full of presents for you and your colleagues..........oh and a choir to sing carols AND lets not leave out the free booze and a taxi home - there you go that's your party sorted :whistle

:hmmmm Now lets think of a compelling reason why the management should do all that :hmmmm Yep there isn't one because you're paid to work. :cuppa

Blimey whose side are you on?

Listen at my place of work we have 72 languages spoken and we are continually being asked to come up with ideas to celebrate diversity.
There is even a diversity forum where certain individuals get to sit down for an hour or so and have a cup of tea and talk about ways to celebrate.

Now Christmas is coming and what better way to celebrate diversity than to provide free food to all members of staff whatever their religion and culture.
It would be a show appreciation and an example of how as a majority Christian nation we like to celebrate and reward our wonderfully diverse workforce.

Everyone is welcome and everyone can participate.
And if people want to they can bring their own food and share it around, it would be a great example to set at this special time of year.

Christmas is the one festival where everyone is invited.
Other companies do it so why not ours?
I spend my life trying to fit in but I always end up standing out.

Nice try, why not organise it outside working hours at your own expense showing how Christian charity works across the world with diverse Merry Christmas signs. If you all bang in your Christmas bonus. Royal Mail stopped celebrating Christmas with its' staff years ago. There used to be chocolates for the staff and children under a certain age were taken to a pantomime with celebrities. Now you're lucky to get a cursory nod.

The whole point is getting the company to recognise the value of its workforce.

My own personal christian charity is being evidenced by me making the effort to get a bit of free grub for everyone else.

I am selflessly working hard to create a feeling of goodwill to all men and women at this charitable time of year.

The bosses are the one's on the big bucks, get them to put their hands in their pockets.

I am willing to chuck in a tenner if I need to.

I honestly think the best argument I have is to use the celebrating diversity line.
I mean it is the buzz word that management are using all the time at the moment, it is written all over the previous work time learning sessions we have had.

Do you think maybe I could say it is a bit racist to not let us celebrate Christmas?

I would definitely not use that as an excuse not least of all 72 diverse languages may suggest not everyone celebrates it.. TBH I know it's a bit light hearted but if you are the only one who is requesting this then you aren't going to get very far. If you can come up with a plan showing that it won't cost the company anything in terms of time or financially they may meet you halfway but they may well see it as setting a precedent for future years each one becoming more demanding than the last.

I think the best we can hope for is free food during break time.

I mean during Eid the Muslims put on a free spread during break.
Guru Nanak is celebrated once a year with a free lunch put on by the Sikhs.
Diwali also has a bit of free grub provided by the Hindu's.

So it stands to reason that the Christian population should put their hands in their pockets and provide a free lunch.
That's about the best we can hope for.

Just as a matter of interest who pays for the food for Eid, Guru Nanak and Diwali - somehow I don't see RM sticking their hand in their pockets to provide sectarian food. As a religious exercise do you go without food from sunrise to sunset when the Muslims do, surely that would also show solidarity. :cuppa

All religious meals are paid for and provided for by members of that religious group for all members of staff to eat and share freely.

Each religious group has a collection and all proceeds go to providing a meal that any member of staff no matter what their faith is can openly enjoy.

The only contentious issue at the moment is halal meat, some will eat it some will not.

I see the solution to all this as providing a fish meal.
Fish is halal and can be eaten by anyone, and also Jesus was a fisherman.

It's the ultimate Christmas meal.

That's probably why we get so many missorts coming into delivery offices in a daily basis, what with the language difficulties and you spend all your time eating free food.

That must be going back quite a long way because it is a long time since we had children working at RM.

By the late 19th century, children's lives were beginning to be transformed. They were going to school instead of work, and being treated as children instead of 'little adults'. With the protection of the law, many could now avoid the exploitation of their childhood and gain an education.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Sometimes they were excluded because they were filthy from the soot from the chimney, delivering the mail was the morning work poor mites. As for children not working at RM any longer :hmmmm
