I was under the impression that under disability, they had to make reasonable adjustments to a duty.

They have to try, they are under no obligation to succeed in every case.

I would love to know in cases such as these what Royal Mails record is for accommodating folk with new and old disabilities in every office throughout the UK just to see if they do accommodate staff or just show them the exit door more often than not for one reason or another!

the rep has come up with a seemingly invincible plan for my future in deliveries...the dom had said if I cant do the full 4.45 delivery I may be looking at ihr if they cant find me anything. however, the rep says that since I've had both knees done, I am therefore under 'disability'. so it is obvious I will be considerably slower than an able bodied postie. the ''offer'' ive made of taking out 3.5hrs of delivery is totally acceptable because it takes me 4.45 hrs to do it. if the dom challenges this, then he is discriminating against me for having a disability. I think it is a very good answer to the dom who seems to be forever throwing a spanner into anything we come up with.....here,s hoping......i'll keep you'se informed.

You might not. That will be determined by your actual condition.
The number of knees you have had done is immaterial.

well the atos report was that they considered me to come under the equality act when i'd had one done....so.

5 hours early would mean a 9:50am finish. I'm only just starting the walk then.

its just what he mentioned......one or two,,,,,the point he was making is that under disability, they cant expect the same performance than that of an able bodied person.

mentioned the plan to the dom today, he says we cant go on having loops covered. I told him from next week the amount I would take out would be ''equivalent'' to what an able bodied postie can do, but it would be in reality about 3.5-3.45 hrs. as it would take me 4.45 hrs to do it....he says well that would not be acceptable, because I would not be doing what is expected of me....I said I am NOT expected to do the same amount as I am under the equality terms and cant do the same amount as an able bodied person, this is when it started to sink in to him what I was getting at, and immediately his face dropped, then he burst out ''well im referring you to atos,,,,we'll see what they say'',,,,i said ''do it, im happy with that'',,,,he walked away shaking his head.....so I think next week the s**t will hit the fan.....it will be interesting because there are 2 other people on rehab with knee replacements and 1 with pins in his foot. its like an infirmary in there.

BarnsleyLackey. My apologies. Slightly misleading. 1 duty has been known to finish as early as 09.15am on Saturday with a start time of 06.00am. 5 hours before some other duties that start at 06.45am.

Good Luck with your case Daveyeff. Since we lost the bikes there really does seem to be a BIG increase in Posties picking up foot/leg problems. I don't really think the management has looked seriously at the repercussions. Suddenly expecting literally 1000s of their workforce to start covering up to 10 miles a day on foot has taken it's toll.

I've been suffering with Plantar Fasciitis in one foot for over a year....now that seems to have cleared up I've got a problem with the other foot. At least on the bikes your feet got a bit of a rest, but as you say expecting someone with two replacement knees to walk for 4.5 hours on delivery is taking the piss!

Do you drive? Is there not a van duty you could cover? Ironically we find the guys in the vans start suffering from back pains and twisted knees were they're constantly in and out of the vans, especially the six footers getting up and down from a Vauxhall Combi !
