Its difficult to say without knowing the local circumstances. But in my place I would say if you and the rep handle it correctly a 2 year warning would probably be the best you would expect.

the easiest solution will have been to pay someone to do the lapse for you instead of saying - you can dock my wages...

Good idea, then get done for fraudulent payments...

Actually as long as the correct procedure is followed you are okay to make private arrangements.

This flexibility could also facilitate arrangements for employees to make their own arrangements to cover and swap duties (subject to approval from their manager) – within contracted hours, providing quality of service is not adversely affected and there are no additional costs to the business.

With a hour and a half to spare you can't really of knocked it back but he should have given it to the first full timer who would be back first , why the full timers would be back first who knows seeing as all duties are equal

I have 3 part-timers that always finish before me and one full timer $%^*:@ that finishes 2 hours before I do when he does my duty. Saying that there is one FTimer that always finishes after me, but when I covered his duty I was within 10 minutes of my average for mine.

Its not always the duty, sometimes its the fools on it be the PT or FT.

Our full timers planned our revision pretty much bolted all the easy 3hr30 duties together picked said duties and left the shite for everyone else , not that long ago we came back and some lapsing was left, three sets of full time p&l partners were sat on there fittings refusing to go out and waited for there time to finish, while we had to go back out and do it

That will be because they are backstabbing arses looking after number one, you can be a PT or a FT to be that, its not a trait that's based on contractural obligations. Its a personality failing nothing more nothing less.

How long have you known the date of the wedding that you attended? Couldn't you have put in a request for a days unpaid leave for that day?

Does your office have any signing on sheets for the managers? I wonder how many of them disappeared early on a Saturday?
I know that in your post it says a manager asked you to do lapsing but where was all the other goons?
If it's anything like our craphole they all head out the door at 11 leaving one goon in `charge`.

In future if you need to finish early agree it up front don't just assume you can do your round and go home, job and knock is long gone.

Its not wilfull delay, the letter I got says "abandonment of duty" , our rep said this is odd as I finnished my duty, its just the lapsing I didn't take, I also could feel the beginings of a migrane. I said to the manager I feel rough and i'v got a wedding later, so doc me the time. or something like that. He shruged and said its not his problem, so thats what I'm going with in the interveiw.

Should have just said you were feeling unwell and unable to continue working on that basis as you felt it would be unsafe. As a result you would be going home to recuperate and would phone on Monday to let them know whether you would be fit to return to work.

Fully aware of that TBT, but what is the chances of the procedure being followed, or either party actually KNOWING of it? Also, check the key words - ' approval of their manager ' - good luck with that...
