It isn't strictly speaking redundancy until 2 years, It's actually classed as a dismissal although I think on the balance of probability it would still be protected in the same way.
The thing is he needs more than what people think and none of the literature spells it out in black and white which is why I would suggest he goes straight to the source.
OK "fishtank" Trust when "Bustedflush" contacts the helpline on the helpline number you gave and gets complete clarification he posts the helpline reply on this forum and then will we will be absolutely clear for others in similar situations.

That is what I plan to do, as I'm sure it is a question which others will be asking.

Right, I rang the helpline. As you were given the shares under the terms of a temporary contract, the same as those given them under the terms of a permanent one, you keep them if the contract is terminated/not renewed as you haven't voluntarily left the employment of RMG. Therefore temporary contract termination is the equivalent of redundancy of a permanent position under the terms and spirit of the SIP rules.
HR would send you a claim form for the shares to be transferred to your choice of ownership, i.e. yourself or another scheme. Then you can cash/sell them free of tax and N.I.
If held less then a year you may have to pay tax/N.I. above the £2000 threshold, but if redundant you shouldn't need to.

Some questions for CWU

Can anyone please help me?
I'm a postie of 8years, I'm a holiday relief floater and cover two different batches. It has been 16 weeks since I've last had a Saturday off, never mind a long weekend. I'm growing very frustrated at this as every time a duty whose long weekend needs covered I'm taken off my weekly holiday relief and put on daily holiday relief. I really dont think this is fair and could be an equality issue. Any help with this matter would be very welcome. Thanks in advance
