In my MC, it's basically first come first serve, regardless of seniority or casuals. Everyone should have a equal right to overtime if they want it, no one should get it just because they have worked there longer or they're a casual. It's 2013...

All these people suggesting they get the rep involved is just silly IMHO.

it shouldnt be first come first serve, it should be shared out equally to all those that want it, there should be a register of OT kept to ensure that everyone is getting a fair chance of it

Well in our office it would go to part timers first, they're the ones with the time to do it. Many only work a 3 day week and so are available M, T, W for OT, and will come in early as they only start at 0900 and of course they're cheap because they have to do 39 hrs before real OT kicks in.

Well in our office it would go to part timers first, they're the ones with the time to do it. Many only work a 3 day week and so are available M, T, W for OT, and will come in early as they only start at 0900 and of course they're cheap because they have to do 39 hrs before real OT kicks in.

i personally dont disagree with that method either, but it is still not being distributed fairly, it should be evenly distributed to everyone who wants it regardless to contract hours seniority or type of contract, ive seen other offices and mail centres where union rep divies up the ot to his pals etc, it should be completely open and evenl

I was also an advocate of an even distribution of OT mainly when we all started and finished at the same time. Nowadays it is far less simple, tbh I don't know how the managers know what time or even day people start and finish. Some of our P&L staff don't finish until near 5 at night and who'd want to go out then.

I contacted HQ on Monday who advised me to speak to my local Branch secretary, which I did. I asked him if he knew what the agreement was for xmas pressure overtime but he said he didn't know off the top of his head. I told him what had happened and he said he would call me back as he was seeing the rep who I had spoke to later that day. I haven't had a call back yet. I tried calling and texting branch secretary again today but I couldn't get hold of him and didn't get a reply to my text so I will try again tomorrow..
