Yes im going to. Union are a totally joke bloody idiots.
im so angry :evil/mad
What did the romans ever do for us eh?

They are still negotiating, however frustrating it maybe. Nothing is lost yet..a true hardcore unionist wouldn't "come out of a union" just because there hasn't been a strike..what makes people think going out will actually win this battle? Didn't this happen in 1971? How many here would hold the line for those 6 weeks or so like those guys did?
I was one we actually went back for less than what we were offered ,can't understand people coming out of the union.
I think if you are not in the union then you should fight for your Own terms and conditions instead of letting the union fight for you.

I don't understand all this "I'm leaving the union" malarkey. There are 2 main points, both of which have been made time and time again:
1. Who the hell is going to maintain our hard won T&Cs if we haven't got a union?
2. Why doesn't everyone just wait and see what the deal IS instead of pointless speculation about what it MAY BE. We'll all get a vote!

I think most of the "outers" are very aware of the need for, and the benefits of being in a union, with many of them being staunch union supporters down the years .............. the problem appears to be that the CWU (or its current leadership) no longer have their support, and no longer appear to be fit for purpose.

Some fresh blood at the top may result in many leavers returning to the fold.

Perhaps the poll would have been more accurate if it included the option of "who has left the union within the last month". Many of those that say they intend to leave the union probably wont, and they are simply letting off steam.
I am no longer a number :-)

Just a question, no ulterior motive. Is there, or could there be another alternative method/ body other than the CWU to act on behalf of our interests?

Like who for example as they won't know what Royal Mail management is like and how to talk to them, but again Royal Mail won't know new people/union so it won't have a plan to deal with them.

Oh I don't know it might depend on what they're offering him :whistle

Still I said I would leave the union on BT2010 and did. I rejoined a year and a bit later. I felt then and still feel the only way to effect change in the union is to withdraw the funding and the more people who do that the more effective it will be. This time I said I will withdraw and I will only this time there is no going back for me.

The CWU has become a shambles without any clear cut policy and a structure more suited to the 19th century than the 21st.

Withdrawing your membership/funding might not encourage the change you want, it might simply put an end to the CWU.
You might not have the luxury of joining again in a year.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I have no delusions of grandeur clash and the intention is not to destroy the CWU, in its present state it is quite capable of doing that itself. The intention is to squeeze the funding so that people within the hierarchy stop to look at the structure of union as it is and make a serious effort to improve. Branch offices need to be looked at with a view to discipline them for failing to carry out their responsibilities adequately. The union do some things well for individuals but are woefully inadequate in dealing with the whole membership as a single entity

The more people who pull out the more effective it will be and it really is that simple. As for the luxury of rejoining in a year you are correct though that will be because I have retired.

The intention might not be to destroy the CWU but that might be the result.
Loss of members will lead to a forced amalgamation with another union and very probably the end of the unit rep, the one part of the union you seem to like.

Why would an amalgamation be the demise of the unit rep, surely that would be negotiable, having said that it would depend on the skill of the negotiators. Now would an amalgamation be a good thing :hmmmm well it could very well be but remember the last time that happened? The organisation was to be streamlined, savings made blah de blah - it didn't.

Even you must realise there is a huge gulf between the workforce and HQ and the structure in between simply doesn't work.

@dvbuk55 your quote

Whilst I respect your position in leaving the CWU, I feel that your cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I do not dispute your rhetoric either. As I feel EXACTLY the same(as do 1000s of others).
The reality is WE need the CWU. Job and finish is dead.
Another quote of yours "The whole point is, if there are enough rules, regulations and agreements to stop excessive work loads and B&H, it's been "surveyed" in the NW - and I use that word specifically because that is part of the ground breaking deal of the century, THEN WHY IS IT STILL HAPPENING."

There is no excessive workloads!!! You work your hours then cut off. END OF.
The reality is all the idiots who come in hours early and take no break to finish early have had their day. :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo!

Yes very true, I'll stay in the union and become yet another mindless drone following the diktats of a busted flush. :cuppa
