Re: overtime inbetween strike days
You have been asked to take IA on the day, if there is ot after what's the problem with someone who takes the action whilst suffering financial distress? The amount of backlog will be huge so to call someone who is trying to keep their head above water a striker breaker is bloody stupid. How many people will be doing OT after the strike it does not matter because the back log will be huge. Get a grip!
Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.

Re: overtime inbetween strike days
no one called someone that does overtime after a strike a strike breaker..they are no better than one in my opinion,i have every sympathy with people in a pickle finance wise(these are tough times),and there will be many that will be more than happy to claw a loss back through o/time.i just cant accept making a one day sacrifice (so far)..(if at all) in the biggest issue i have faced in 27 years warrants me to help the unrest i caused only the day before.its a awkward issue granted.maybe i am just a bit old fashioned when it comes to disputes, they do cause unrest and sacrifice.

If we are balloted for an overtime ban and it goes ahead then I will do so. Untill such time I will strike and do a little overtime if available. I do a little each week now so its not as if I'll be earning any extra as such, I'll still be a days pay less.

Nobody should do overtime while we are in dispute with bosses.

Re: overtime inbetween strike days
Really? I do my job correctly every day the way RM tells us. I inconvenience them by doing this but that's how it should be done and if it takes me over then so be it. If it takes me over the day after a strike, again, then so be it. I will book overtime if allowed or cut off. If the CWU ballot an overtime ban then i shall do just that.DirtyHarry wrote:Nobody should do overtime while we are in dispute with bosses.

In an ideal world Harry but in an ideal world we would be at the gate by now and wouldn't be going back in until this was resolved.
The reality is if it keeps money in member's pockets and therefore a strike solid it's a price i'm willing to pay.
Overtime ultimately costs Royal Mail money and money seems to be all they care about now so...let's make them care a lot.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: overtime inbetween strike days
What you have in an Agreement compared to what happens in reality can be very different...
In my limited experience the manager rarely sits down with a rep and draw a rota or system for overtime - certainly not in my office and a few others that I know.
It is the same few that do OT: mostly it is fine by most of the employee because they do not want to go out after their own delivery - this is even more the case since the revision and shared vans...
The only unfair part is when OT is given to mostly established FT staff to cover indoor work. And it is often the same few that are asked to come in early, prep the flats, do extra on IPS or close up or even come in Sundays (usually xmas) or do packets...
Coming in on days off can be about the willing but most that come in are usually those with easy rounds and they stay on their on rounds.
* Only 2 did OT in our office today: they were 27 hrs PT Reserves with less ab 6 months service. The 2 (plus 1 or 2) also do most of the cut-offs and emergency OT due to absence as well as come in on their days off.
What is the point in being contrary when the poster as even acknowledge that the Agreement is not often adhere to by both parties.

You are quite right to do overtime , the IA is a strike , work to rule and overtime ban have not been balloted on. If I recall the last couple of strikes RM said no overtime to clear the backlog , that lasted a couple of days before we were told get it cleared .its just chest beating in the early stages , in time it will be clear it sod the cost.i applaud you for standing by your convictions ,but first and foremost feed the family and ignore the petty remarks, you will not be the only one to try and claw back some money .dont forget the hardship fund that people on here have referred to it should haves few quid in it if messrs hays and ward are putting in a days wages.
