We do - because the possible disengagement of a sizeable number of union members is not good news.

That might be the case but now is not the time for soul searching discussions about member disengagement.

The turnout was decent given the threats,propaganda and inducements being handed out by Royal Mail.I can't remember an Industrial Action Ballot where the employer has so blatantly tried to interfere with the democratic process.

The 78% Yes vote is actually quite impressive given that most on here were predicting a much closer result.The rest we'll deal with after we've delivered the agreement the members deserve.

Because we are going to need them to stand on the picket line, or at the very least stay away from work.

Membership engagement has to happen at some point,that has been put off for too long.
Hand wringing and beating ourselves up over why some members didn't vote just undermines confidence in the battle ahead.

I'll answer the question.
Some couldn't be arsed.
Some might have wanted to vote no but couldn't bring themselves to do it.
Some might have wanted to vote yes but couldn't bring themselves to do it.
Some might not have received their ballot paper.
Some probably put it down somewhere and couldn't find it again.
Some forgot to fill it in.
Some forgot to post it.
Somebody's kid probably drew pictures all over it.
Somebody's dog ate it.
Somebody's cat pissed all over it.
One slept with their mate's wife,got caught and is in the middle of divorce proceedings.
One lost the ability to write.
One couldn't find a pen.

If you want to screw around with statistics only one in eight voted against strike action,that's a pretty emphatic rejection of Royal Mail's policies.

Unfortunatley I'm off sick at the moment, but from my postman putting the ballot paper through the letterbox to me voting yes and posting it was less than ten minutes.The reason is apathy they want the rest of us to make their minds up for them
