The Union is not an organization that does a lot for individuals that's not the reason for its existence. If you joined a Union expecting it to do things for you as an individual then you probably will be disappointed. Now if you expect support when you run into difficulties at work, then again it really only works if people join and/or stay members.

However if you still wish to leave then all you need to do is call wages.

Of course you can, its called building a relationship. If an ADR and a DOM can't speak and communicate with each other, well then the interests of the membership can't be adequately represented and problems can't be addressed quickly without recourse to strike. If we are accusing management of B&H of members, and its endemic, we can't expect the situation to change without decent communication both ways.

Also in my opinion calling people names, because you disagree with him, is indicative of the culture in RM and its something we need to tackle both within and without the Union and Royal Mail. You can disagree and dislike someone, you can even think their ineffectual and weak, but if you want to work with them, or within the system as a rep, then again IMHO you have to put personal opinions aside and act in the interests of the membership. If a rep can't do that I am not sure if they will be an effective one.

Careful who you step on, on the way up HEADSTRONG guy you never know who you might need on the way back down. If you had any bollocks you speak to him in the correct way and use his advice and knowledge in your quest to become a rep or are you another ship passing in the night who can't handle a little pressure and resign at the first sign of conflict?

Clearly we have different views I don't condone his behaviour others might. If I am to work with him he needs to appreciate he cannot treat me like that I don't care how long he has done the job or been in the union. He needs to understand I'm not going to go away when he doesn't answer me or is ignorant to me. Simply as. If I were sub rep I'll listen to people regardless if I don't partically like them that to me is part and parcel of the job not send them away and saying there moaning if its genuine concern then I'd look into it properly.

I can handle pressure it seems like he can't. He might have to actually have to do some work and warrant his full release paid job when it comes to my queries. Asking for advice is not doing anything wrong and that is clearly upset a few guys on here. what exactly have I done wrong there?

Asking for advice is not wrong - and what he did we are still not aware of he may be in the wrong he may not and we will never know.

However, just from your posts on here:

You take issue with him being ignorant to you but you called him a plum. Is that not itself being ignorant or at the very least letting a personal matter cloud your judgement.

You assume we condone his actions because we question yours, nothing is as black and white as that and if you can't see in shades how can you negotiate with management and how can you explain them to members and take on their views.

Just to be clear if he came on here and posted that he had an annoying member who went over his head and that he had sent him a "snotty" reply - I would take issue with him as well. Communicating by sending nasty notes and name calling should remain in the school playground where it belongs.

I haven't been nasty to him in person or email because he is ignorant and hasn't been bothered to meet me until apparantly this week, and calling someone a name on here when I could have said worse is quite frankly amusing. I asked for advice because my local rep didn't understand my issues completely, and I felt undermined as a person so I asked the divisional rep who i knew sort of from my old office and he passed the buck to the area rep who was snotty to me I then again emailed back with my concerns and was ignored its that black and white as you put. I asked for an apology was ignored, spoke to my rep and branch sec they said email area rep again, finally got a response saying he will meet me but will not be giving an apology because he thinks he has spoken the truth and not been rude. How exactly is that my fault or me being rude or annoying?

Actually name calling is a form of bullying and harassment and doing it on a publicly accessible social forum could cost you your job.
Frankly amusing? I don't think so.

I think we're all being a bit over sensitive for a Sunday.
Unless Plum has a meaning i'm not aware of(which is possible these days) it isn't the worst name to be called.
I prefer bawbag.

Having had many disagreements with my Area Rep over the years(and called him names to his face including bawbag) I do understand that it can be difficult and frustrating when the relationship breaks down however Clash is right in that you do have to ignore personal feelings and try to have a working relationship.

It's part and parcel of being a rep, dealing with people you don't particularly like on a personal level.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Maybe - but the word he has used is immaterial.
If/when it gets back to the Area rep the lfc is calling him names on the internet, I don't think it will end well for him.
Though obviously if you don't agree with everything he says you are against him.
I'm not sure having a persecution complex is a healthy thing for a (sub) rep.

Please don't threaten me with silly things like social networking may lose me my job for having an opinion it is ridiculous. I know it can happen but clearly you have a problem with me and not my ACTUAL concerns. Goodbye :cool

My Area Rep gets arsey with me if a member bypasses the process. There is a protocol Rep-Area Rep-Branch well thats the one I ask the guys to follow and it works well. Going above the ADR you probably got him a bollocking off the Branch or Div Rep like the one I'd get off my ADR if someone contacts the Branch/Div Rep without speaking to me first. You will have to learn to deal with it and straightforeward emails/talking otherwise you won't get far if you become a rep of some sort.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
