I am afraid any strike hurts the public, workers and business, but when you are forced into a corner my a management team that appears to despise its own workforce, whose pay offer is the only one, and we can take it or leave it, makes me in reality (not theory) £30 a week worse off (based on my wage this week), and having to work longer hours for no extra take home pay (ie make me work 50 but pay 40). Then withdrawal of labour is the final option.

Would you accept the offer as it stands.
To be honest, the CWU *and* Royal Mail are very hard to believe.... So I don't even know what the actual offer is! Both sides spin it so much...

Public Support

Post by mailjock »

The British Public should nevcer be underestimated for their intelligence - they have seen what's happened with every previous privatisation of a public utility - the service is cut to the bone to provide ever greater profits for the shareholders.

They know it will be no different with Royal Mail - they are already seeing it - SDD, later deliveries, PO closures, increasing cost of postage, no Sunday collections, earlier collections, reduced collections, the list just goes on and on.

The public know that the bosses of Royal Mail don't give a s**t about them and that includes small businesses. RM is only interested in the BIG mailers the same as TNT and the rest of them. And all the time they pay this lip service to a USO governed by Postcomm who seem to be on a determined campaign to also destroy Royal Mail which comes as no surprise given their close links to our only shareholder - The Government.

And journalists - most of them are too lazy to even understand what the strike's about, others are told the headline before they even start writing the story and some follow the political tune of their masters. But you know, the public know all about that as well and are capable of seeing through the crap that's written.

The only thing that can win this strike is the solidarity of the CWU - if that fails, then we all fail and so does our once-proud company and the service to the public that it is famous for. It's nice to have public support but at the end of the day Victory lies in our hands not anyone else's

Even the strike breakers and managers know that if the union is destroyed then everyone will be fair game - this company is itching to get rid of MTSF and bring in compulsory redundancy. sad thing is they won't chop the thousands of managers with no jobs involved in fantasy projects or garden leave - naw, as usual, they will make ordinary workers their priority.

AL is walking a tightrope at the moment as the big Xmas mailers will be issuing threats right left and centre and if the pull their business the company is probably a busted flush but then AL will have nothing worthwhile to sell so won't get a share in the equity of the new company he is trying to create from the ashes of Royal Mail after he destroys it.

My heart weeps for him especially as he has given up a day every week to mastermind our future - Ha bloody Ha.

Notice the unite / managers deal was only possible because of our industrial action.
they have only got a deal because rm will be totally paralysed without them.
they have used us as cannon fodder for their own selfish agreement
Shame on you unite

Just got off our picket line and we are in a town centre with a crown post office attached. This makes a difference in how our members gage public reaction. As from 8.30 we interfaced (management speak s**t whats happend to me) with many of our customers and found 95% support of our actions. We got the petion out to John Hutton from C.W.U. and most signed up. The picket line in town give us a chance to get our message across with out Royal Mail spin. We explaned downstream access and nobody thinks it i fair. So get out and talk to our customers once they know they support us. Good luck.

i think far from alienating ourselves from the public, they can sympathise with our position, i would also like to add that the way these 2 48 hours strikes have been called by the CWU are a perfect answer to RM's arrogance and contempt for it's workforce, but in doing so the CWU are giving them the chance to see sense with the break between the strike action, and in doing so giving RM every chance to come to an agreement to this dispute.

i just would like to say i was on the line from 4.20am til 11.30 this morning and apart from one old lady complaining about her granddaughter not getting a birthday card (and was quite rude for a senior citzen  ) we had total support from the general public and we had to explain to a lot of them that its not all about pay and when we spent the time explaining our situation to the public we got total support from the public for our cause

SO :lfo :cfo

Look fellas, kick me in the shins for this, but my brother works for Royal Mail communications ( fairly quite high up) It is his job and the team job to sit infront of the internet all day long posting fictitous costumer complaints and mis-information to dislodge primarly, the CWU position and work towards the RM position. The royal mail pay a team of 5 a fair ransom to post to all websites and various media outlets (hellmail, moblog, and several mainstay newspapers etcetc) with complaints about how bad the workers and our practices and the service are. They also check for any personal incrimination. My brothers team has brought to date since the first strike over 30 cases nationwide of harassment, intimidation, malpractice, and just downright sillyness, through the net alone, mostly through you tube (you nobs that post videos mucking around realy are nobs btw). His team just load the bullets, its upto your manager what they do with it and from my guess if they dont like you or you antagonise the IA...........
Chances are, in your office, you'll have a printout from hellmail somewhere in the office. If this is the case then it will be a unnamed customer stating how its cheaper to use an alternative courier or how you've lost a fictitous contract. This is allways bollox. Weirdly, more customers comeback after trying out a new source for collection an processing. Downstream access aint as popular as you might think as the DHL/TNT collection service isnt what they think (can you wait ten minutes"no chance,m i have to be in timbuktoo in 5mins, im collect an scarper")
The war of disinformation is allways on an the Royal Mail think nothing off spending £200,000 fighting you on the web, if not more.
Do you realy earn £440 a weeK?. I earn £500+gross but thats after a 60hr week off which, 10 hrs on Sunday (due to end 21st Oct)
If anything, just dont post anything incriminating thats what i say.........

If all the spinners, speculators, cyber warriors, barrack room lawyers, Telegraph/Mail readers, politicians, "Industrial correspondents" Lazyton, Lazier, Lying managers and the rest of the critics tried to do my (or many of my comrades) walk for a month they'd think differently.
