will they want to buy if we are on strike (again !). hopefully our union heirarchy will 'time' it just right. hope they are keeping a watchful eye on the privatisation time bomb.fishtank wrote:Only problem with that is do we have the time to wait about?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Yep a slow turning of the screw - sometimes its more successful than a straight out ballot and strike. Lets hope it is in the case.
If CVC are genuinely interested things will move fast.
We'll look pretty stupid with our "fight privatisation" placards if the deal has already been done.

Re: pay rise
Well either I'm stupid or everyone else has missed the point - this is a consultative ballot on the four points raised - where on earth does a yes vote on the consultative ballot indicate that people are prepared to take industrial action? Somewhere someone has seen that this as precisely what it is - smoke and mirrors and a delaying tactic.

Re: pay rise
Only those who want to see smoke and mirrors , if the perfered option of an IPO takes place a number of legal loops still need to take place and that takes time and needs engagement of the CWU due to the employee Shares and if they come out and ditch the IPO they will need to make that announcement and still deal with the CWU.
What would be totally the wrong tactic at this moment when we are speaking to the public groups , the countryside alliance and various other groups who are opposing unfair competition , the threat to the USO and privatisation is to ballot for strike action whilst we are gaining politcal support from unusual alliances.
Now if there is a need to ballot for strike action in the forthcoming weeks then at least we know where members are supportive of the unions arguement and where no one has voted and can target those offices .

Re: pay rise
it doesnt. and yes, thats is exactly what it is,,,a delaying tatic. its my assumsion that if they get a massive yes vote on this consultative ballot, then they are convinced that they will get a rubber stamped yes vote to go on strike. voting yes means you are backing the cwu policy. maybe dingo could clarify that one for you.dvbuk55 wrote:Well either I'm stupid or everyone else has missed the point - this is a consultative ballot on the four points raised - where on earth does a yes vote on the consultative ballot indicate that people are prepared to take industrial action? Re: pay rise
Dingo, everyone is going to be supportive of the consultation ballot, I am BUT that is not indicative of support for a strike ballot - which because of my many years as a union member I would still support HOWEVER I don't believe that support of one is a given for support for the other. A tacit yes to one without any consideration is not a tacit agreement to strike where very many considerations would apply.dingo wrote:Only those who want to see smoke and mirrors , if the perfered option of an IPO takes place a number of legal loops still need to take place and that takes time and needs engagement of the CWU due to the employee Shares and if they come out and ditch the IPO they will need to make that announcement and still deal with the CWU.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I'm more than happy to admit to it IF anyone can show me the relationship between the consultative ballot and an industrial action ballot.clashcityrocker wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:Well either I'm stupid .

Re: pay rise
In line with our rule book every office which requests an industrial action ballot must have a show of hands before they are actually balloted and this is consultation ballot. Where this is done we mostly get a yes vote when the legal ballot is conducted in the office.

Its not as Black and white as that. One is a Political action, the other is an industrial action as you pointed out.dvbuk55 wrote:I'm more than happy to admit to it IF anyone can show me the relationship between the consultative ballot and an industrial action ballot.clashcityrocker wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:Well either I'm stupid .
One has to be fairly specific. The other is wide ranging and can get a broader view of members concerns.
A Consultative Ballot is also an intelligence gathering exercise, it will show where more work is needed to get members on board, it will show to some degree what the most important issue is to ordinary members, it will also tend to show if areas have a good relationship with members or not.
An IA Ballot is very stark and pointed, a Consultative ballot is more general and will help to target resources to the various campaigns.

Re: pay rise
Seems to have definitely stirred things up branch wise.
Never hear or see any branch officials at our office or get any literature.
But been bombarded with the posters lately & meeting coming up & we got a no for BT 2010.

Re: pay rise
Tell me who in their right mind is going to vote NO to any of the consultative questions and that will therefore produce zilch intelligence on which to base any forthcoming IA ballot should it come to that - in truth anyone who formed an opinion on the result of the ballot would be seriously misguided and the very last thing the CWU needs are armchair soldiers talking a good fight but when it comes down to it will find a myriad of excuses to bottle it.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Its not as Black and white as that. Re: pay rise
We need to sort out our pay deal before any discussion of Industrial Action is taken. We have public support only over the plans for the future of the Company, not over our bank balances.
The Royal Mail propeganda machine will quickly make greedy postmen striking over pay the main headline whilst the Union will once again fail to utilise the same channels to counter that suggestion.

Let's be brutally honest though, there are members who will only strike over pay.Himaggen wrote:We need to sort out our pay deal before any discussion of Industrial Action is taken. We have public support only over the plans for the future of the Company, not over our bank balances.

If you separate the pay deal from the other issues Royal Mail will sense the opportunity to divide the membership, throw together a pay deal that looks good on paper and the Royal Mail propaganda machine will be in an even stronger position.
Greedy postmen reject inflation busting pay deal or even worse greedy postmen accept inflation busting pay deal and still vote to strike.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
