Just how long can this go on for I wonderfishtank wrote:On it's own the final bill could be as much as £500,000 which is manageable if HMRC agree to a payment plan but coupled with the ongoing issues with the 3 pensions, the fact that CWU wage costs have increased by over a million in the last two years, the sudden urge by National Officers to "withdraw" in cash banked holidays i would say we're pretty near to broke.dvbuk55 wrote:Just so ft, so how damaging could this turn out to be do you think?
Broke or not it's pretty disgusting just how much of members money, given over supposedly in return for representation is not actually going on representation but on covering up financial ineptitude and over indulgence.
That's the real story here.

1. I haven't been an "activist" for some time 2. I can only speak for myself.
As Treasurer I got (about) £20 a month ; for doing "several hours accounts work" a month, from home. So ignoring the unquantifiable impact on my energy bills, about ½ of minimum wage.
As Treasurer I deducted usual home-work mileage when claiming for all-day meetings. I encouraged all others, Reps & Officials, to follow suit. None did.
As Treasurer I pointed out several times that day subsistence was, IMO, more than generous in terms of actual "out of pocket-ness". Yet more fell on stony ground.
It was always my understanding that up-to-£300 was tax-exempt ; thus, during my time, h-payments to whoever were capped @ £300 p/a. HTH :)
