It is all right to lick the boss's arse if you fully intend to kick it later.

I don't believe the CWU hierarchy have lost the will to fight.
But it is just an opinion. :cuppa

Wether the union should fight every battle at national level is irrevelent , if grass root members feel they are being let down by the union then when the union want to fight an issue nationally ( privatisation ) I believe in this current climate and apathy towards them it's an hard sell , we need to fight back now with a strategy and intelleguene . , because if we allow privatisation to cone in then I believe the battle is lost and where will the union be then , its the final battle we can't lose

I sincerely hope that the 6.9% pay rise covering the four years from 2009-2013 is not looked upon as the golden age of pay bargaining.
If it is i'm heading for bankruptcy. :chuckle

In a prefect world yes. However, to my recollection in the 8 years I have been a member of the CWU I don't think I have voted for The Gen Sec or the DGS(P). I may be wrong but I think they have both been elected unopposed every time.

Billy and Dave were elected via ballot the first time they became GS and DGS(p) respectivley both beat John Keggie. Billy was outdoor sec at the time and I think Dave might have been a divisonal rep for London but Im sure somebody will be able to accuratley confirm the position Dave held when he challenged John Keggie.

Since then they have been relected unopposed each time they their postions become due for re-election.

Remind me.....how many times has the union had to fight against privatisation plans.........and won?
I think the next attempt at privatisation will be the most determined but who exactly is going to buy Royal Mail?

I think the fight was lost last year.
In the words of Dave Ward the passing of the Postal Services Act was a "game changer".
There may be a token effort but the real effort now will be to see how much influence the CWU can retain in the privatised business, what our pensions will be going forward and what employee ownership could mean for the membership.

There will be more worry over the possible constraints and conditions that the EU place on the company in return for granting state aid than there will be over privatisation.
As to who will buy Royal Mail, with the pension deficit lifted and the proposed changes in regulation there will be no shortage of potential suitors.

Remember this is a company that despite the pension deficit commitments, the regulation stranglehold, the declining market and the on going modernisation costs....still turned a profit despite being in the midst of the deepest recession anyone of us has seen.
It isn't the basket case that some would have you believe.

Plus we've got a tory leader who will be desperate for privatisation . The union won't be able to put pressure on the Tories like we did with labour , that's the big game turner , that's why I'm saying more than ever the union needs it's members , but like I've posted before we had 100% members in my depo now it's 75% with more wanting out , because when members need help to fight rm for different reasons I'm afraid in office the union is being out thought and members feel let down . One example 20 years in the business a member had a operation on his knee he's got a near perfect sick record and had proof from doctors about his operation rm issued a stage . When I started he wouldn't have been issued under the circumstances . He feels let down . Like many other members you only have to read alot Other posts on this forum . It's a bloody shame how things r going I don't know who's to blame if anybody , but the union will lose the battle on privatisation that's why the revisions r going ahead they want to streamline the business to make it more attractive for investment . Rm management should be wary IOC this change . New investment means different management because as we know major mistakes r being made in alot of depos , new management won't put up with Imcopetence managers . So rm managers be ware of what seems to be grass is greener comes to mind .

I think any company coming into buy us will be very wary about the union.

IMO its important the union get really strong again to be the biggest deterent against privarisation.

Saying that the new company may already realise there is no chance of getting shot of the union and will have to accept that the union will have their input like it or not.
Its not like British airway and the likes managed to get shot of the union when they were privatised.
Not sure what privatisation would bring but I'm sure lower level management in its current form wouldn't be allowed to happen.
