Hardly, the middle men get shafted every year and never get first pick, how is that fair?Judgee wrote:We do one year seniority gets first pick, the next year juniority gets first pick, the next year seniority, etc. Seems to me this is about as fair a system as you can get!

Re: HOLIDAYS NO LONGER DONE ON SENIORITY
in our office we spit the list into 4 lines. so line 1 gets 1st pick this year. next year 2nd line gets 1st pick. and so on. is it fair, best of both worlds i guess. it shouldnt be on a 1st cum 1st served unless the individual has booked 2-3 weeks off cos they geting married for example

Of course it shouldn't be done like that.keithposty wrote:

It is completely at odds with the spirit of BT2010 - remember - trust, new relationships, no them and us, taking the business forward together, no EA no IA etc etc.
But this is Royal Mail we are talking about.

Re: HOLIDAYS NO LONGER DONE ON SENIORITY
Keith - Rather than seniority, why not suggest they do it in a rota.
6 people to a group - each group gets a holiday sheet (depends on size of office ofc and how many groups, how many can be off each week etc) Most senior man of the group gets first choice of 2 weeks, then goes down the list, by the time it gets to the bottom of the list, the most junior man gets first choice of winter or summer weeks. Split into smaller groups like this there's usually going to be space for everyone to get a good couple of weeks in the summer.
First come first served is all very well and good until you find out that one person is in before everyone else and managing to get the 2 best weeks every year and everyone else is left to fight for the scraps.

its not just about taking holidays
those with kids could be paying out for childcare
so they dont get to see the kids and get to pay for the privilege

Re: HOLIDAYS NO LONGER DONE ON SENIORITY
in our place we pick a/l on a rolling basis so senior person gets 1st pick and then goes to the bottom of group to pick the next week and so on.it is done in groups of 6 people and rotates around year after year so everyone gets to pick 1 week 1st.
who the hell invests £2 billion into a servic and makes it worse?????????????
you really couldn't make it up!!!!!!!!!!!

What happens when a new person starts? How are they allocated a position?
How do you ensure you have enough drivers/PHG or whatever?

Re: HOLIDAYS NO LONGER DONE ON SENIORITY
in our office it goes on a '3' rotation. this year you are in the small pool who get first pick, next year you are in the small pool who get 2nd pick and the 3rd year you are last pick. it then just repeats itself like that. part timers and full timers are kept apart. seniority makes no difference to our holidays.
