You are 100 % correct. I do not know cost of housing accomdation and living standard up North but London and South East its not possible to live with £180,000 plus mortage on standard postman's wage.

I was under the impression that London and SE got an extra allowance over and above the wages we get in the North or am I misinformed?

If you look at the average postmans wage in the north it is extremely difficult for anyone to afford houses here too - especially with the advent of the part time contracts.

I do understand that it is difficult to afford a house but overtime is not or wasn't classed as salary because as you say RM giveth and RM taketh away. The answer must be in Government providing affordable houses

The basic pay for a postal grade in Inner London is £407.58p pw including Inner London Weighting.
It's less in Outer London, and I don't think there is any extra payment for the rest of the south east.
So I think that is about £40 pw or £2,000 pa more than the rest of the country in Inner London.
But housing costs are two or three times that of most of the rest of the country - renting a two bed
flat would be at least £160 pw for a run down flat in a rough area (council or housing association rents
might be half that but are difficult to get - you would have to be on the waiting list for years, have several
kids, or be 'vulnerable' ie an alcoholic or drug addict).
And also the general cost of living is much higher here.

The answer as you say would be for affordable housing, but there is not much sign of that happening.

part buy/part rent property, but postal workers are not regarded as keyworkers, although we earn
less than those groups of workers.

Just had a look at my pay slip---basic pay I get is £324.92 per week,£80 less than inner London-I must have missed a few pay rises (LOL) or is someone in wages pulling my log!!!

No extra payment for me living in the south-east, new apartments down here start at £199,000, I'm never gonna have a hope in hell of buying anywhere on £253 take home each week. Luckily I've got a housing trust flat, so my rent is'nt as bad as renting privately, my brother rents a house in the same town his rent is £750pcm

I know what you mean about house prices and mortgages at the moment I have a part-time job to help pay the mortgage,but with the later start times coming in I will probably have to give it up so god knows how I'm going to afford the mortgage!!!!Worrying times ahead

Well under the caring sharing partnership they are supposed to take into account other commitments and you should be given someone elses' job to take account of your circumstances.
