How many fruitless strikes do we have to foolishly participate in, before the wake-up call sounds loud and clear?

Took the last three big strikes, strikes which didn't gain us a single thing, and left us with ever worsening terms and conditions, before I realised what an absolute mug I've been.

Looks like there will be no shortage of folk with money to pour down the toilet, and who believe we should strike only to cause a bit of a nuisance, and not to actually improve our pay and conditions.

That's not the trade unionism I grew up with in the seventies, and will no longer subscribe to it.

Life expectancy has risen by 5 years since I was at school and presumably so has the quality of health. Without raising the retirement age who is going to pay for the average extra 5 years of retirement per person?

Acutually this may be true but the life expectancy of a manual worker is 3 years LESS than than the national average. So seems only fair to me that office workers who actually have a life expectancy of 3 years MORE the national average should pay for us poor souls who flog oursleves into an early grave!

Good point about the socioeconomic effect on life expectancy . Apparently your A's and B's will get to screw an extra 17 years out of the pension pots compared to your D or E posties etc.
And that's without taking into account that a lot of them will be putting their feet up at 55.

BTW just in case your maths and history is as good as your debating skills please remember some points:

1. He is retiring next year after 49 or 50 years that means he started at the GPO/RM in 1962.

2. The school leaving age was raised to 16 in 1964 - 2 years after jockstrap started at RM/GPO.

Perhaps you should be applauding someone who has worked for 49 years rather than trying to get a reaction from people.

No you gave your opinion and then I gave my opinion on your opinion (A definition of debate). Thats why its called royalmailCHAT, we are allowed to respond to your posts in a personal capacity.
