Re joining union after scabbing

And if you represent someone you should do it to the best of your ability, not according to some sliding scale of how "good" a CWU member they are.


clashcityrocker, even when said members always scab, & always undermine the union rep ?
As for carrying overweight bags & using own car (No, i don't before anyone assumes) it aint in the same ball park as scabbing is it, if we all scabbed the union would be finished.

If a WORKER came and asked for my help in a dispute with MANAGERS I know which side I would choose.

I have never crossed anyone's picket line and I never will but there are worse things in life.
I would find it harder to represent someone who I knew hit their wife than I would someone who had crossed a picket line.
People cross picket lines for a variety of reasons - some for financial reasons, some for "political" reasons.
Unless you engage with these people you will never get them to see a different picture.

A unit rep is a lay rep. They don't have to represent anyone they don't want to. It would be pointless to represent someone half-heartedly. If you don't want to represent them it would be more honest to just tell them you don't want to (and why) and let a paid union official get on with it.

if their wasn't a union you would be on £6 a hour minimum wage. as a unionised industry you are on nearly £9 an hour. so thank the people who pay their £3 weekly subs for your benifit.

we can't prevent them rejoining but how well their rep represents them is a matter for his/hers own conscience. if the rep sits there and says bugger all in their defence then they can't really complain. don't expect them to support you if you aren't prepared to support them.

Whoever this person is who wants to re-join the union after scabbing if i was the rep in this office i would let that person suffer in the hands of management. They don't want to support you when on strike but when in trouble they want to join the union. Supposing that person did re-join the union and got good representation would that person still carry on paying the union fees or would that person give excuses that they can't afford the fees or as we are approaching industrial action would that person come out of the union. I say to the SCAB don't try your tricks with your colleagues you are either with us or against us in the SCAB'S case you will always be against us ONCE A SCAB ALWAYS A SCAB.
