So non union members are expected to strike when the union calls for it... but negotiate thier own terms on pay and conditions hmmm ok! :d'oh!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

i don't expect anything from non members except a selfish attitude. my quote above about ballot's was for members to abide by the result. non members are on their own.

As a union member I have always backed the union.
Now, after constantly being let down by the membership and HQ, who only seem to be interested in a one off bonus while ignoring the consequences, I find myself questioning if it is even worth voting.
It seems to me that the union are only concerned with keeping their feet under the table and the membership want a few hundred pounds, and complain that they've been let down later.
SDD, Pay and Mod, 2010......I voted against each of them, but the majority of the membership didn't and they were brought in.
Explain to me why I should go on strike, or even remain in the union, when neither the union nor the members share my views. Why should I lose wages just so I can come back to worse terms and conditions?
The only way I will back IA is if I am sure I won't be shafted by the membership/union yet again. Does anyone really think that the majority would give two hoots, as long as they got a few quid extra.

At the end of the day you seem like many others who claim they will not go out simply because of the previous bad deals.... let me remind people that the union merely negotiates a proposed agreement and we vote on the whether we accept that agreement or not. Unfortunately no one seems to take the time and read the proposed agreements and as such people blindly vote to accept an agreement in favour of a stupid system which promises money which never comes to fruition.

If we do not feel the agreement is what we want then we must throw it back in their faces and say try harder.

The problem isn't that the agreements are wrong, it's that, time and time again the membership accept the stupid little carrot dangled in front of them.
Ideally, the union should be strong enough to demand actual improvements to our terms and conditions, and the membership should stay strong and support them. However we have neither. There are times when I honestly feel we deserve what RM throw at us, just because of the way the majority fall for their lies every time, and it is people like us that suffer for it.

Agree with you Pinstripe. It seems that RMs "People" are smarter than our "People"

We can read a proposed agreement and vote on what "We think" it means! Then when it's put into action suddenly those "Grey" areas that haven't quite been agreed on turn out to be one bloody great can of worms! And we've been shafted again. :mad

Surely the CWU must have enough brains somewhere to realise they're being had and make sure the nail RMs balls to the table BEFORE they recommend we accept some half arsed deal. :d'oh!

I won't pretend I'm smart enough to understand all that's been proposed in any agreement , but that's what I pay my dues for.

That's the point, you can blame the dozy members who voted for it all day long but when all is said and done they followed the recommendation of the people who are supposed to be smart enough and experienced enough and certainly well paid enough to spot a pig in a poke.
If HQ had recommended a NO vote and the membership had gone against that and voted for it then there would be more scope for blaming the membership...as it was...they did what they were told to do....not how i think but you can understand it at least.

I know how you feel. We've been called out on strike several times for postie issues which have no bearing or benefit on our
T&Cs, and then come back to find some sc**ing OPGs worked right through anyway.
The doh-baits can't even fight for thier own particular causes let alone understand the concept of solidarity.....and then wonder why RM sticks it to them every time. :hmmmm

I'm a non union member after all the lies and how much money the cwu lost me. I take my breaks and start on time and work to rule. It's the union members in our office that are destroying the job. Most use their cars and have the cheek to make me a scapegoat.

if it wasn't for the union you wouldn't get paid for your breaks. its better to try and change an organisation from within than from the outside.

What breaks? according to the management the part timers don't have a break at the end and the union rep shrugs his shoulders and non of the union members in our office take their breaks.

i was a union member for 13 years I came out after the last pay 'deal' as I felt let down my the union ( higher up not local reps) and have been proved right

so by the reasoning of the OP as a non union member I deserve less rights than someone who has been in the job for 1 year but joined the union a week ago

sadly it figures!!!!

someone needs to give the union a massive wake up call before it is too late

loyal members are leaving because we feel you were not working FOR us and we will not get any benefit from belonging to you

our union is not perfect, i'm the first to admit that, but if we were all on our own, disorganised, god help us all.

I believe without the union we would be in real trouble but I'm just too angry to go back. Especially when the new gem up their sleeve is industrial action....

exactly how I feel mailman

i have no confidence in the leadership hence why I left

I truly believe it makes no difference at this time if you belong or not

should a change at the top occur and people that are willing to listen to us and work for us, instead of telling us what to do ( even though we know it is not the right thing) then I would rejoin in a shot

I believe at the moment that higher agendas are at work

and not to my benefit hence the reason i left
