Unable to finish and tea breaks

The fact that you have been doing it for 19 years,custom and practice must come into play surely.

Not if it's in breach of that.

 Appropriately scheduled meal breaks ( consistent with relevant working time legislation)

Let's put our cards on the table here...taking it at the end is just encouraging the time chasers.
You can't do it in a factory FFS why the desperation to do it here?
What's the problem with working from your start time to your finish time in this job?

Apologies for my rant,we had a cover manager the other day who was questioning our breaks and we we're argueing about our local agreement as mentioned in my errrr rant.
Was a knee jerk reaction as it was still fresh in my mind.

We obviously don't know the office in question here but you can bet your life the guys there do kind of get a break as tbf there are always lulls in the working day inside.
Managers are seeing this no doubt and to then finish 40mins early and possibly cut off wont make sense to RM.

There is no lapse in indoor work. we have had a table top revision (what a disaster) and i would say at least 80% of the dutys have very little hope of finishing on time hense why this new manager has said what he did regarding tea breaks. I guess old habits die hard regarding how you work as an office , a few of us decided to take a 20 min break before we went out and we told the rest that is what they should do but it is like banging your head against a brick wall trying to get the majority of the work force to do the same.There answer is they want to just get on with there round and prefer it at the end. On a side note i only live about 5 mins away from my office what are the rules regarding going home for your 40 min break .

I'd think you can go home for your break. After all you can go out to a cafe if you want to.
We have a few people who live near my MC who go home during their break.

The law of the land says they can tell you when to take a break (within certain rules) but not where - go fill your boots.

However, I would think travelling time to and from are included in the time for your break and not from when you get there.
