As far as i know this is a strike to cause maximum disruption to RM at minimum cost to the striker ,we also were not allowed any pressure o/t,Iguess the feeling on this forum is that we will be offered o/t to clear it and we will have to say no,in your case i would advise you to do what you have to do ,let people know why if you are , and they will understand and dont forget to stand proud on the picket line, you didnt ask to be put in this position either we all know who put us in this position.Spedley wrote:We have been told nothing about overtime ?
Ok, so ...
money has been tight for me this month, I often do 50% overtime per week but due to recent employment in the office overtime is few and far between. I can't afford to live permenantly on 30hours per week, let alone 24:40 but I can survive for another month without casuing myself hardship.
What should I do, overtime or cut-off ?
I've taken a slagging from this forum, mostly from people not reading posts properly but I do support the union and I do have a family to feed so you decide - you have until 5.30am to give your vote.

We were told there was to be know overtime and any mail that came back with you would be taken out the following day.they had to knock 30 minutes off our sorting as there was so much mail, everyone would of cut off otherwise.Managers were out dropping off bags in their own cars and this is from an office where us postmen have been told we are not allowed to use them. DOUBLE STANDARDS.

If your office is letting you do O/T to help get rid of the back log then your lucky itSpedley wrote:If we are asked to do overtime/excess to clear our delivery tomorrow, what do we do?
Do we refuse and slowly catch up over the next week for free or,
Do we make up some of our lost earning with most of the damage already being done?
Is R/M tactics to stop you recouperating any lost earnings you have encured
by taking Industrial Action. But if you have the opportunity to get back some lost
earnings, and it helps you with continued support on your strike days, then I personally
can see no harm in it.
But if you can afford to say
UP YOURS R/M
Now thats a much better feeling.

Don't have a conscience about it Spedley - whatever you claim in overtime cost's your DOM part of his next bonus - just make sure they pay for every calorie you burn mate - give them nothing. If they are asking you to do overtime it means they can't stand by their principles (which we all know already) and they are desperate - I'd try for an SA rate and really piss them off.hoofer wrote:If your office is letting you do O/T to help get rid of the back log then your lucky itSpedley wrote:If we are asked to do overtime/excess to clear our delivery tomorrow, what do we do?

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting and I claimed 1 hours excess.
I did weigh up the option of cutting off but because it wasn't very much and because I'm a floater and I would have left it for someone else to deliver I took it. I asked the Floor Manager what he wanted me to do, bring it back or deliver it and he said either was fine by him but obviously he'd rather I deliver it. It was ll very polite and matter of fact with no need to antagonise anybody.
92Kg in 8 pouches, not the busiest of days but still heavy.

OK Spedley I've been one of the ones to disagree with you before now but on this one it's really got to be down to you. . . . in an ideal world nobody would do docket after a strike to increase the effect, but in the real world we all need to pay mortgages and feed families . . . I personally believe it's better that someone does docket after a strike if they really have to than if they just gave up on the strike completely and scabbed. It's your consciounse and your decision, do what's right.Spedley wrote:We have been told nothing about overtime ?

I could have afforded to cut-off today, I can afford it without much effect for another month.
I delivered the mail, not because of the money but because I think that tomorrow we will still not have caught up and the next phase of strikes begin. I really don't think that RM care if they don't deliver any mail, they will just keep on blaming the strike and claim they have no more money. The government have already given them a £1Billion loan so they must have done the maths and agree that RM is short of money.
The point I'm making is that this is going to be a long and drawn out strike. I am budgeting to have little overtime and lose 5 days pay every 6 weeks and making my life difficult by not deliviering 1 hours mail which will have little impact anyway is probably a bad idea and if we are still on strike in 3 months then I think you will agree with me.
I don't like to make posts this long but RM know that the longer they wait the more leverage they have. They know we have mortgages and families and at some point when the balifs are on your doorstep you will cross the picket line, you would be stupid not to.

Oh good, there's me showing you a little support and waving a truce flag and you come out with this rubbish. . . . . . . if you think our actions will have no effect then why are you bothering at all, in these times of industrial action every little from every individual helps and if everyone just thinks "my little bit won't make a difference" then we might as well all give in now . . . . . . BUT WE WON'T . . . because thankfully the majority have enough sense and backbone to do their bit and together we really can make a differenceSpedley wrote:I could have afforded to cut-off today, I can afford it without much effect for another month.

business plan and all that entails ??
for the two most vicious senior executives to darken the doors of Old Street to claim an overwhelming victory, then you,
me , every full-time postal worker in Britain can start counting down the days untill we all kiss the job goodbye.
We lose this fight , your mortgage won't be worth spit in a few years time anyway.
