In response to Allan and Adam's letter (Sat 21 July)

and when the screws realise that these people are finishing earlier ( and they will sooner or later ) what's to stop them putting extra sorting or finishing off "break offs" onto these duties. Any arguements will be met with "well you finished early all last week so you've got time haven't you"

Or how about when the next guy takes over that duty but does it properly and as a consequence can't get it done in time . . . . when he's taken down the conduct code for not working fast enough will the conscience of these people be clear ?

Or how about the simple fact that on heavier days they're doing themselves (or others if they break off) out of overtime and money. . . . the very reason we go to work in the first place

Or what about when their car is broken into and mail stolen (as happened in our office) even if the car was locked and mail out of sight, the postie involved is taken down the conduct code (our guy was cleared but only after 6 weeks of worry as to whether he still had a job or not) and has to pay for the damages himself

I might be missing the point here about using your own car,as it doesn't affect me on my duty But after i have pointed out to certain car owners about using there cars they say " well i finish earlier " And then the van drivers say "Well that is five bags less i have to do. So i finish earlier aswell " So who the hell cares?

With RM thinking of bringing in yearly hours rather than weekly and with these tracking systems that are allegedly for tracking parcels so that recipients can see where you are, as well as managers when you finish early you will owe them hours.

At the moment they say that there is slack in every office, everyone who uses private cars and finishes early is the slack that they are targeting.

AND as you're a part timer doing a full time job ( just with a bit of sorting removed ) how can they be surprised if you book a little docket from time to time, so carry on with this attitude 'coz, as you say, there's jack they can do about it.

Good on yer smokerjim thats the spirit, post above was aimed only at IWW's work 'colleagues' as they have all chosen to stick two fingers up at the union after all the help they've given them. A great opportunity for you to have a bit more docket out of 'em

I start everyday at five.finish one o clock=eight hours I have done my duty to my content but i get really sad at the fact some our finishing two hours before me and getting the same pay? So where the hell is the equallity on duties? Why should i have to work 40 hours when others work 30 for the same money And please don't reply my duty should be retimed. It's the other duties that should be retimed?

As I said, I've been thinking about it for a while & the opportunity for serious docket last week was the shove I needed - but yeah, I do enjoy the fact that it takes me longer....even the docket I did do, some people said it'd take me a couple of hours tops, but I just kept to my usual pace and it took me over 4 hrs ( including travel to & from ) for the rural & the town delivery was 3 hours, till I got bitten with just about one pouch remaining ( so probably would have been 3.75 - 4hrs if I had finished it )

Those duties will get retimed, and no doubt they will have to deal with 20% extra work a day.....the sad thing is, if there are five ( or multiple of five ) of them, that is all the excuse the screws need to force through Summer Lapsing in your office, which means someone gets kicked out, or leaves & they won't be replaced ( and that's more work for eveyone )....if they stop using their cars afterwards, it will be too late.

Summer Lapsing is one of the reasons we are going on strike & you can't fight against extra work one day, the agree to it the other 9 days till the next strike - one of the earliest things I learnt is the reason for your actions do not concern only you, they concern the postmen doing your duty after you, even those that are not yet employed.
