As a former rep' I agree with some of what pcb says but the union hasn't been straight with the members. We were called to a meeting to discuss Bus' Trans' and the union rep had a 5 page document containing all the tasty bits unfortunately for him some of us had read the 50 page version. Every question asked outside of the 5 pages could not be answered. He told us he would get back to us with the answers but were still waiting and the votes been taken. Had to vote no consequently. Some members didn't even realise that they were actually voting through changes to MTSF which was also contained on ballot form. I have always been a supporter of the union but on this occasion they didn't provide the necessary consultation to ensure that members could make an INFORMED decision. Still considering leaving.

They didn't say it was it was full of problems and unknowns'
They didn't sit on the fence either but said that it was a good deal.

Theres democracy in having a vote but the 80 pages needed to be digested.
our local rep said to us at an office meeting that the higher levels of the union recommend a yes vote!
He personally said he was voting against!
what a mixed message we were getting, it caused a lot of people not to vote at all !
Im not saying leave the union.
but this was not democracy at its best
ask yourself if these forums are still chewing over the agreement details now!
how could we vote without enough information? the answer is we couldn't .
thats when you rely on the people you pay you subs to to steer you right.
You had a union meeting?

Where can I find a run down of the actual voting figures cos i heard only 40,000 posties voted

42223 say yes while 21368 say no in the 2010 and beyond national ballot.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
