Your manager is lieing and as said already, breaking the law by making you work unpaid. They all try this one on so don't fall for it. I've been in the job 6 years and still go over almost everyday and so claim OT. It is impossible to complete a lot of the duties as they have made them too big. You should tell them to either pay you for the hours you work or tell them you will only be working your contracted daily hours. If you only want to work your hours you should ask your manager what to do with the mail when your delivery time runs out. Remember you need to be back at the office 10mins before your finish time to hand in signing card, visit toilet and have a general tidy round your frame. If you decide to do OT make a note each day and check it has all been paid when you get wage slip. If you are told you aren't working fast enough remind them you will take many weeks to get faster as you are new. They can't sack you for 'not working fast enough'. All they can do is offer you more training and assess your work rate and try to speed it up. If they say you MUST take the mail out or you will be sacked for 'wilful delay' ask to have that put in writing and tell them you are feeling harrassed and will complain about it then see union rep.
