This is an interesting thread I`ll tell you why. My Deputy rep and I start the picket line off on Friday Morning 4am ( never ever been on a picket line before)
I in my naivety had not thought there would be any vans arriving at all because of the 3am to 3am bit.
Right, now the fun? start`s. Royal Mail van turn`s up, Royal Mail driver gets out. DOM who had been inside the Office comes out. I flash (placard) in front of driver (top man) he say`s "I`m not crossing a picket line". DOM say`s "I`ll drive van through". Driver (top man) say`s I signed for van you can not drive it!
DOM then say`s "I`ll unload it" moves to side of van. Driver (top man) does not show him how to work the buttons for tailgate. Dom proceeds to lower tailgate. Buggers it up (technical term) half up half down. I begin to think (perhaps I should have been doing this before now?) Shout out to driver (top man) what about H&S, if it falls on him (tailgate) or `cages` who`s to blame (brilliant eh? I afterwards said to the Boss (DOM) my priorities had been, his health 1st , our customer`s mail second, strike 3rd. Mr Leighton, it`s not only you who can tell porkies!)
Right say`s driver "that`s it, this van is going back" DOM now gives it one my try. " let me phone your boss". Drivers (top man) boss now on phone, I say let me speak to him. He gives me a lot of verbal, "who are you" while speaking to another higher boss- who must have been standing along side him at the other end of the phone. "I`M GOING TO PUT THIS DRIVER (TOP MAN) ON A CONDUCT CODE" ( Now at this moment I start to worry, honest, not up to this moment had I been concerned at all) Was driver (top man) in TROUBLE? I now say, " this is lawful IA. etc.
DOM now takes phone back, goes into yard mumbling into phone, don`t know what he say`s. Result, van goes back, UNLOADED!!!!!!!! ( but not a fairy tale ending, van latter returns with the most pig headed manager I have ever come across at the `helm` we end up looking at each other through the windscreen after he brakes just in time, but thats another thread some time)
Now, do you think that driver (top man ) is safe? on Monday, hope so, otherwise I have got him into trouble?

fedup postie wrote:Allegedly, the ones who refused to cross Friday morning are being interviewed Monday night by the manager.
They have been briefed to quote the health and safety act, that if they themselves feel in danger or if they feel they may put anyone else in danager, they should not cross.
RM managers say that everyone was briefed saying you should cross the picket line etc etc.
We'll wait and see what happens.

Chris,i think it depends on the Managers, some on here have seemed to have got away with it.
You know what they're like, anything could bloody happen.
Are there any area guys that can clarify this, especially for the next one.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This does seem a very grey area. We will see Monday what is going to happen. I guess the WTL Mon night is going to be very intersting.POSTMAN wrote:Chris,i think it depends on the Managers, some on here have seemed to have got away with it.

The forging of stronger links has to be the way to go , we have enemies in whichever direction we look , and whatever can be done
to make those very true words, 'UNITY IS STRENGTH' , a hard to ignore reality , must be tried.
Pity about Harriet Harmon winning the race for deputy PM. Interesting times ahead of us, methinks !![]()
Even the prison officers assocation reps turned up wednesday as well.
Back in the day when i was just a wee school lad i had a saturday job in a local DIY shop which was in the old co op building which had unity is strength on the front of the building. Perhaps i was destined to become a union rep?

Got some good news on my round today (first day back on signed duty since strike) everyone said well done etc. and no one had a bad comment. However, 1 Nurse on my round and 1 council employee both confirm they are about to be balloted for strike action lets hope CWU band together with their unions and lets make GBs first months a bit uncomfortable for him.
