Re: Unions stance on non delivery of mail over parcels
Office budget for last month was totally blown and that was just delivering tracked on overtime not the mail. There is nothing at all left in the pot.
Yet some still come in hours early and work for free to prep mail that will be going nowhere. Then go over for free...
What union ? Its madness.

I don’t understand what is going on in the heads of people coming in early and working for nothing. There is no sense in doing that.enskied wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 20:12Office budget for last month was totally blown and that was just delivering tracked on overtime not the mail. The cost of servicing Tracked is a riddle RM have to solve. They have created the issues and then made it worse by splitting parcels from the mail which they are determined to continue with despite the cost.

We've got people who come in 45 minutes early despite being on their own on a paired duty with obviously absolutely no chance of completing, just do all the parcels and whatever mail they can, but they still start earlyBarnacle wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 20:26I don’t understand what is going on in the heads of people coming in early and working for nothing. So they’re not even coming in early to make sure they finish?!?! That’s so ludicrous.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 20:38We've got people who come in 45 minutes early despite being on their own on a paired duty with obviously absolutely no chance of completing, just do all the parcels and whatever mail they can, but they still start earlyBarnacle wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 20:26I don’t understand what is going on in the heads of people coming in early and working for nothing. Does this make us also complicit in breaking the law,you can not use well he told me too do it in a court of law.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 18:41last i looked the CWU didn't own RM so any stance they have is just that "words".postslippete wrote: ↑05 Aug 2024, 19:53In response to the title thread - the Union's stance according to Martin Walsh is that the six day universal service obligation is no longer financially viable and they would be willing to support the delivery of letters 5 days a week. In the joint statement with Royal Mail earlier this year the CWU agreed to find a balance between improving quality of service and the overall financial position of the company. This states where a delivery route or part of the route is not covered on any given day then it must be covered the next working day to ensure any delay in delivery is for the maximum of ONE day. There are plans in place via resource meetings with the Union if walks start failing more than 2 days in a row.
So whilst RM keep putting the postage on letters up, they are also giving the public an even worse service and managers are often doing this deliberately by purposely not fully staffing the duties. These duties are not covered and the mail is planned to fail for that delivery on that day, which means that there will be double mail that needs to be delivered the next working day.
You all miss the real point here, RM employ you to do as they bid, within reason, for x amount of hrs per day, spread over a number of days in any given week. How they decide to best use those hours is up to them.
I like a lot of you remember how we used to work and "wilful delay" is a thing of the past, they just don't give a feck, as quoted by a manager to me on me complaining about not being able to clear my frame for days.
So there we have it, RM have abandoned their obligation and the only solution is just to do as instructed or leave, which is happening in droves.
Modernisation at its finest.

Always text them with what is left or brought back, then it is time stamped and in writing. They can’t claim they did not know.guardianangel wrote: ↑07 Aug 2024, 05:57Does this make us also complicit in breaking the law,you can not use well he told me too do it in a court of law.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 18:41last i looked the CWU didn't own RM so any stance they have is just that "words".postslippete wrote: ↑05 Aug 2024, 19:53In response to the title thread - the Union's stance according to Martin Walsh is that the six day universal service obligation is no longer financially viable and they would be willing to support the delivery of letters 5 days a week. Re: Unions stance on non delivery of mail over parcels
They may tell you to take it all out and see how you go. In which case you may have no alternative to ring them up to decide what they then want you to do while you are out there. Ringing them is also the correct procedure but it can be difficult when they don't answer their phones.....In which case you would need to ring your rep up as well. This would originally be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records but the reason why it isn't is because posties are often delivering multiple days of mail..... While RM are guilty of abandoning their universal service obligations, managers are doing everything they can to make sure they are not to blame. They will never put anything in writing to tell you to prioritise parcels over letters like you said and you can't obviously take pictures of frames full of mail and post them on social media. However, managers do get moved on if mail is continually failing all the time. What frustrates me about the Union is while they don't 'own' RM, they are not holding them to account over quality of service failures either. When reps and managers collude not to accurately report delivery failures that's when you know you're screwed.

On the texting point: call them, speak to them, but put it in writing too because they have a habit of not remembering conversations.postslippete wrote: ↑07 Aug 2024, 07:56

But what RM are doing is against a backdrop of those in charge who desperately want a reform of the USO so that it's financial sustainable and that's why the postal service is being treated as a graveyard. Until there is a definite plan on what a reform of the USO actually is things may get worse before it gets better and this probably won't happen until next year. What needs to happen imho is that any penalties for not achieving any "revised" USO need to be a lot bigger than simply the cost of doing business. If OfCom believe that IDS could save £300 million a year by delivering 2nd class letters every other day and they fail to achieve this, then the fines should be in relative proportion. What we learned from the Select Committee's is that the RM board has also excluded the delivery of the USO from long term pay and bonus incentives for its senior managers and maybe that would change if they had specific targets to hit on a revised USO. RM for too long have been using the financial position as an excuse for why it has been failing USO targets. With a possible new owner on board the government needs to make sure that he isn't intent to just run the postal service into the ground for personal gain.

Which law would that be, the USO is a service obligation and ofcom police it supposedly, the company is obligated to comply and we work for the company but ultimately we aren't held at fault.guardianangel wrote: ↑07 Aug 2024, 05:57Does this make us also complicit in breaking the law,you can not use well he told me too do it in a court of law.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2024, 18:41last i looked the CWU didn't own RM so any stance they have is just that "words".postslippete wrote: ↑05 Aug 2024, 19:53In response to the title thread - the Union's stance according to Martin Walsh is that the six day universal service obligation is no longer financially viable and they would be willing to support the delivery of letters 5 days a week. This company has no respect for the USO and will lie under oath to get their way.

When pay inevitably becomes linked to SISO, which of the following do you see happening?
- They keep coming in and they actually get paid for it per scan-in time
- They are forcibly prevented from starting early
- They keep coming in and they don't get paid for it because someone fiddled with the SISO data
Parliamentary legislation is law. I am not a lawyer, though I confidently declare there is zero chance an individual OPG would see the inside of a court over the company's failure to adhere the defined standards. Company executives, board members, and senior managers are the people that would be summoned over this... which they already were. They got away with it.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2024, 05:48Which law would that be, the USO is a service obligation and ofcom police it supposedly, the company is obligated to comply and we work for the company but ultimately we aren't held at fault.guardianangel wrote: ↑07 Aug 2024, 05:57Does this make us also complicit in breaking the law,you can not use well he told me too do it in a court of law.

With reference to the people who start early and work for free (?!?), I think they will be soft discouraged from starting early and told to only scan in at their official start time. They then continue to work for free because the people who do this are so set in their ways that they can’t change and managers take advantage of this fact.Mr Rush wrote: ↑12 Aug 2024, 20:13When pay inevitably becomes linked to SISO, which of the following do you see happening?

OfCom as a regulatory body is also woeful and they have consistently failed to hold RM to account. A £5.6 million fine is paltry and is regarded by RM as the 'cost of doing business'. That is why it is still happening now. If RM expect to make bigger profits on the back of a watered down USO then they should also expect to receive much bigger fines if they fail.

Re: Unions stance on non delivery of mail over parcels
returned to royal mail very recently after a few years, it's no longer just a 'postman' job, we daily leave a whole walk just to be able to complete the tracked and oversize, in fact we spend more time driving round doing the parcels than actual walking delivering the mail, it needs to get back to one postie to one walk.. as for the early (free) starters I don't get it, it's not like you are able to go home early like before, you still have to wait till your fin time, so there is no benefit in this.. I'm already looking for another job, it's not the job I thought I was coming back to, the new worse contract and lower pay I was willing to take, but not the new way of doing the job.
