Is that not what manager's are for!. To arrange mean's of transportation and get thing's done in a speedy an efficent fashion for god's sake what are we paying these people for?.Ogg wrote:In theory (and please dont laugh) the expected low volume of traffic should enable you to have more than enough time to complete the extra delivery. How does a postman get to the extra delivery ?
Does he use his own car ? and his own petrol , or by van or walk, or by a taxi .
If postman/women use their own vehicles their probably still finishing early so they will take the extra work, but its only a matter of time until the next round of cuts.
The only reasoning that I can see is let royal mail provide transport, and we all work to our contracted hours.

Unit Flexibilty and Effiency Plan Phase 3
Summer Effiency[is just about to finish in our office and to say the least it has been a farce.
The so called 'lack of mail in the summer months' has been a complete joke; the mail has never dropped in our office and this has been another 'Lie from RM'.
The only ones who have been able to complete the extra calls are people who are on Walks which are under 3.5 hours and who Do Not Do The Job Properly!
These fools think that they will still get away with finishing early when the next Phase kicks in,
WHO ARE THEY TRYING TO KIDD?
RM will bully and harass everyone who finishes before their time and the whole way of life for these fools will change; the early finish and 'Senior Walks-[Seniority ! WHAT DOES THAT STAND FOR NOW?]' will disappear completely.
The management tactics in my office is one of bullying and aggression; they are on our backs constantly and I cannot see this changing.
How many times must we tell people to stop running around Walks, take your full breaks, don't use cars on delivery, start at your time and do the job properly!
That is why RM is expecting us to take more out and cover for sick leave, etc
By the way is there anyone out there from Plymouth? Can you tell me about 2 in a van? Rm are trying to introduce this in our office, everyone is dead against it but the DOM thinks its a great idea, can you give me any feedback please?
Sorry but to me we are all Doomed and spend an eternity in being sh... on from RM.

The way this Phase 3 crap will work/fail is the following:-
Collapsing of a walk(s) and other postmen/women carve it up and deliver it BUT and this is where it will fail, all this has to be done in allocated duty hours and NOT on overtime. It cannot interfere with the 15mins travel / 3.5hours delivery / 15mins pouch off time for 739 items = 4hours
If it does increase your 4 hour outdoor work then you can refuse to do it. Obviously outdoor work is different for rural areas but you do NOT go over your agreed outdoor working times, unless you want paid overtime.
And thats it, simple.

The way I see it is we only agreed to phase 3, trials of ways to cover each other, that is what earned us the 1.5% backdated, as far as I know these trials were failures, and it was proven impractical. However phase 3 WAS completed and as a result we got the 1.5%.
Phase 4 is the implimentation of ways to cover for each other, and as such has NOTHING to do with the 1.5% pay rise, we have done everything to qualify for that already and no agreement has been reached as to what phase 4 actually involves. In my office I have pointed out to the managers that we already flex on the IPS in the morning by prepping walks for the late starters, and that is the only place that we can afford to flex. The part about covering for each other already happens anyway, its just about people offering to do a bit of each other's walks when somebody needs to go somewhere such as a school sports day or the like, its just common sense really. However overall there is NO agreement as to the implementation of phase 4 as I say the trials proved to be failures, and as a result I have refused to sign any agreement at all regarding phase 4 on a local level, this actually seems like a management scam anyway, as national agreements don't require a signature at a local level, so the fact that RM are trying to get local reps to sign for this speaks volumes to me. Stay strong everyone and don't let them grind you down.

Well in our office the plan is that the accelerator drivers will have to get us to the extra delivery.genesis wrote:I have a question.

Sorry brother but I think ( for what its worth! ) we are only doomed when the LAST person gives up. You sound angry, let down, and peed off? you aint alone! You have not given up yet? And i have not! I never will and if you look around this site and at your work many others have not. If your not happy start talking, start working towards what you do want to happen and try to make it happen. Even when it does not go the way you want you have your selfrespect and dignity and can get ready for the next battle. We all have bad days just PM someone here on RMC when you need a G up as i do! But please never say WE are doomed.
Thanks for your support,
Yes I am angry, let down and very peed off,
I have been in this 'business' for over 25 years and have seen all the changes good and bad.To me, it seems we are stumbling from one disaster to another.
The RM management are grinding the Union, Seniority and all of us into the ground. Soon, the CWU will be nothing but a puppet; used when Allen Leighton clicks his fingers. I remember when the Union was feared by Management and they could do nothing in an office without the members taking a vote.
What happens now?
We are all lied to, and RM introduce changes by means of their 'Executive!'
We are told that WE ARE THE UNION, so how come we are give very little or no input into their plans for OUR FUTURE?
When I joined RM I was told 'Work hard and build up your years service and eventually you will be a Senior Postie',
Seniority means nothing these days, it does not make any difference if you have served 25 years or 25 days we are all on 3.5 hour Walks!
Now, we are told 'sorry you will allhave to work until you are 65!' What a great incentive that is to everyone!

Once again linkinpark I thank you for your support, linkinpark wrote:You raise so many good points that as i was looking at what you had written, my first thoughts were how i was to respond to your post or if i even should and more to the point if i could! The task of sorting out our future is so huge and vast that its far too much for one or two people to have much sway over things that happen to us all. So alls i can tell you is how i get through each and every day. It starts when i walk through the doors of my DO and am greeted by my mates with a few laughs the odd f*rt ect ect. ( you get the picture.) Looking around i work with some of the best people i have been lucky enough to work with. With the loss of job and finish and the advent of "do your job properly" it really does not matter where i work because i serve the people that i deliver too on that day not the DSA crooks or any other ones for that matter. With that in mind i start work on my frame and do the best possible job i can and i now take real pride in what i do rather than rushing and making mistakes to save a few seconds that will only be used against me and others later. I bag up with care looking at how best to use my time for the delivery of the people i serve and the drivers that take them out for me and whilst this is going on i have a couple of comfort breaks with other posties and some times we talk about RM politics but mostly just normal stuff like kids holidays and stuff, most all of them know how i stand on issues because of handing out the reject the deal leaflets last year and more and more ask questions about it and the CWU. Now i cant pretend to have all the answers but thats were RMC comes in i point them here so they can make up their own minds. For me the real pleasure is when i get outside and start delivering, every thing is a challenge from staying awake to make sure the right mail goes through the right door, keeping peoples mail dry even though its throwing buckets down, helping people with problems to do with RM or Post Office Counters, just having a quick chat or a ready smile for the odd lonely person to making a real difference to some of our older or disabled people by giving them a hand with whatever they need from posting a letter, picking up a bottle of milk, reading a letter for them the list is endless because i feel its our job to serve these people. And whilst i have enough anger for ten posties and the issues we all have they have changed my contract x times messed with holidays ect ect its the little things that get me through the day although i have to say it was not always like that i now realise that we can only do what we can do and must find a way past the rest and work for what we wish but most of all remember why we are posties, to feed our families and serve our communities and the rest will come in time as we work together to acheive it. It may seem like a big long dark tunnel but we dont have to look far for inspiration, these guys risked every thing for themselves, families, and us.BIG AL wrote:Hi linkinpark, linkinpark wrote:Quote. All or most of what you have written is spot on,
likewise I work with a great bunch of colleges and enjoy the 'banter' with them and when I am out the door to on my delivery this keeps me sane!
Interaction with my customers and helping them in any way possible makes this 'job' rewarding; the same as delivering birthday/Xmas cards etc
What is frustrating me is the endless politics and changes forced upon us all,
For years Royal Mail have made the Govt vast profits,[Did we see any?]
Yet what happens when it makes a loss? Blame the Posties! its all their fault!
Lets face it, we never joined RM to become rich; but how can Mr Crozier give himself a massive Bonus months into the job?
The same person calls us all 'overpaid and underworked', Shocking!
All we hear in our office is 'cutting hours' and look you should all be more 'flexible'; they are cutting the staff to the bone and stacking more work on everyone.
Where will it all end?
Do they want us all Part-Time and the Quality of Service [Remember that?] of this once Great Institution to be completely destroyed?
I remember watching a video of a Dutch postwoman who went out and delivered mail after sending her kids to school first. She had all the mail to be delivered dropped off at her home, it fitted in with her lifestyle. I remember everyone of us laughed and thought it was a joke.
Same as machines which could sort all your mail in sequence, sort faster and with less missorts. It was all very laughable then!
Sorry for going on a bit, but this is some of the issues I find frustrating me. Maybe, I should not look too far ahead what will come will come!
I just hate what they are doing to our job; if something is not broken , why fix it?

Unit Flexibilty and Effiency Plan Phase 3
What I dont understand about phase 3 is this. The DOM & the CWU rep sit down on Monday? to discuss this weeks mail volume. The DOM suggests that Tuesday is a quiet day and wants to lapse 2 duties. What happens to these 2 posties whose duties are lapsed at such short notice? During the summer lapsing at our do we still needed extra bodies in to throw off the rounds and then they would have to take out the areas that didnt get done because it was too busy for some duties to take. We obviously didnt save much money from this brilliantly constructed plan. The next part I dont understand is about the IPS. Has the DOM taken that into account? Cos we are now 2 posties down and that will take effect on our sorting time. How accurate is the forecast? Could extra M3 that has been sitting at the MC all of a sudden land in our office? Today for instance was a tuesday and is relatively quiet but when I first arrived at my do, I thought it was going to be hell but the final feed was dead and overall made it pretty easy. We also have to wait for the missorts which is ok for us town posties but the rural posties rounds are all 4.5 hrs plus and they struggle during the QT times so god help us when it picks up.
The final puzzle is the fact that RM are streamlining us so much that we wont be able to compete with other couriers when they hit the ground delivering. We are so thinly stretched that it will be constantly breaking all over the UK. How can we try to attract custom when we dont have the resources to accomodate?
Hope that makes sense cos Im off tomorrow and im having a little liquid medication to soothe my aching body

But as I pointed out these 2 posties are needed to throw off the rounds that are being lapsed as we dont have the bodies to do this and carry out the lapsing. So there is 3 hours of their 8 hour shift already covered for in our DO. Once you take transport and Meal relief then you dont have much to work with at other DO's.k979aaa wrote:The postpersons concerned ie the lapsed duties will be shiped to other offices in the area to cover what ever spare duties are avalible ie sick or short staffed!.
